Hoppy is always getting poop stuck to his butt, belly, tail and legs its in his cage and other stuff too. He is not eating anything he has never eaten before without any problems. I always cut it out of his fur by his butt and belly then take a warm wash cloth to wipe his feet and legs. Can anyone tell me why all of a sudden this is happening to him?  I don’t know if I should take him to the vet or not for it. Can I shave him or should I leave that to the vet or groomer?  Thanks

don’t shave him! rabbit skin is very thin, so a tiny nick could turn into a big deal.

i’m guessing these poops are cecotropes, which your rabbit should be eating. you shouldn’t really see them except for an occasional stray. is there a reason your rabbit can’t access his cecotropes (overweight, disabled, etc)? if not, and if there hasn’t been a diet change, i’d see a vet.

Agreed. No shaving, and warm washcloth is good for getting it off of him. I was going to ask if it was just once or repeatedly, but it does sound like he needs to be checked by the vet. I would be sure to take a little sample of the poop you get off of him in case your vet wants to test it, too.

Is he avoiding his litter pan? Sometimes, if bunny doesn’t like the brand of litter (some prefer pellet litter to soft shavings or vice versa) than it may be an avoidance of the litter box and then getting on him. If the vet gives him a clean bill of health, tell us about your habitat set up to see if some changes will help. But vet visit first, please.

Do you know why he is having this problem? What is his diet – this is not normal for rabbits to have poopy butt.

It’s not poopy butt it gets stuck to him. Its normal poops. He uses the litter box just fine. He is acting like his normal self but he just gets poop stuck to him mostly by his belly and butt. I think it’s on his feet from walking on or in the litter box.
