Sebastian lived the earlier part of his life as a stray and was then ‘rescued’ by someone who didn’t even feed him hay. He came to shelter angry, underweight, and with teeth problems. Sebastian overcame his anger at the world and loved to flop and cuddle with us. We could not afford a fourth rabbit, but we visited him every week and showered him with the attention he desperately needed. Today they took him to the vet and some parts of his bloodwork were abnormal. The vet gave him an ultrasound and found several kidney stones. Unfortunately he was too weak to survive under anesthesia and he passed away. Sebastian was a beautiful rabbit who would climb up on our shoulders and eat his vegetables. When I would come into the shelter he would bound to the front of his cage and put his head down. It will pain me forever that he never lived a life outside of a cage and he never had the chance to binky. I am glad that he knew he was loved by me, but I can’t help but think about what could have been. Sebastian, if love could have kept you alive, you would have lived forever. Binky free my angel.

Oh, that’s so sad. He definitely was lucky to have you. It sounds as if he went peacefully under anesthesia so that is a blessing.

I’m so sorry. Don’t be pained by what he didn’t have, let what all you did for him uplift you *hugs*

                  Binky Free, Sebastian. <3

This is a truly great story and I’m glad (and I’m sure he appreciates) that you spent time with him and showered him with love despite not being able to take him into your home.

And I’m sorry snowytoshi for your loss. I myself am attached to a few of the buns at our rescue and I can imagine it hurts just as much as losing one of your own furbabies.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

He would have been at the shelter a year this March, I have seen him almost every week since then, and I was the one who named him. The sheter and I have been talking for the last few months about what would happen if his kidneys were failing or if he had a short time to live and we had planned to adopt him if he didn’t have long left. In the last couple months he had trouble eating because of his teeth and he couldn’t even grind his teeth in contentment anymore. I m glad he is free from that, but I can’t imagine not being able to see him anymore.
