Hi all! i think i need some advice just to put my mind at rest
My rabbit Rosie was spayed today and also had her teeth filed as they were causing problems with her eyes. She’s home but refusing to eat after lots of try’s! When she was out of her cage she was tip toeing around so I can see it is sore.. But I’m just really worried when Ralph(her brother) got neutered he was bouncing around like normal! It’s been about 7 hours since the operation was completed.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get a rabbit to eat? Or do you think she just needs some time?

        Thanks
        From a worried momma!!

I would allow her to rest and recover – this is very typical with females – she just wants to be left alone.

Did the vet give you pain meds to administer starting tomorrow?

I find that females can take a full 72 hours to totally recover. You do want to get her to eat but that probably won’t happen until tomorrow morning – try to entice her with things like kale or some fragrant herbs.

Dont worry! Shes probably still a bit woozy from the medicine. Neuters are much easier on the rabbits than spays, which is why Ralph bounced back so quickly. It took my girl a full two days to act like her crazy self again. Keep offering her veggies, pellets, and hay, but dont be surprised if she isnt very interested. By this evening she will probably munch a bit, but not much.

Also, give her the pain medicine if she seems uncomfortable!!

I’ve got some pain meds to start tomorrow morning as told by the vet I’ve tried some rocket which is her fav but no luck so far.. She seems comfy enough resting on some soft towels for now!
              Fingers crossed for the morning!
Who knew a rabbit could make you worry so much??

Oh, those bunnies! I was worried sick when my Chacha bun got spayed She had to be kept overnight for 2 days after her spay! It is very normal for the females to be a bit more out of it.

When she is well, be sure to hold up a treat above her head so you can inspect the incision to see if it is intact

That’s a good trick to see the incision site! Thanks
I wonder aswell as she had her teeth done whether she doesn’t want to eat as that may be a little sore too?
I’ve just managed to tempt her to some water.. By bringing the bottle to her of course lol! I’ve popped lots of hay and some of her favorites into her cage overnight… Fingers crossed!!
Then to battle with the oral pain meds in the morning she doesn’t like the syringe at all!
