So I am pretty sure that they are cecotropes but I am wondering why they aren’t all mushy/smelly/grape looking! I think they are from Mocha as I found some stuck to his bum the other day. I was wondering if this is something dangerous that I should take him in?

My theory is that he is over weight and can not reach his butt to eat them because he is VERY chubby and he seems perfectly healthy otherwise. Normal behavior, Eating, I haven’t seen him actually drink but they do it mostly at night or when I’m not in the room. Their diet is only Unlimited hay and veggies. No pellets, which makes me think it is not a diet thing.

Here is a link to what someone else asked Dana. It seems to describe Mocha perfectly except that Mocha is 3 not 2 : http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-703/2008/10/cecotropes-2.htm#b

here is a picture of what I have been finding all over my floor for the past 5-6 days.

        Photobucket

You can see in the pic above that he has some smudges on their too.

Has any of your guys had a bunny who had this!?

Bindi will leave poopy smudges and cecal wads when he needs his teeth done. Is it possible Mocha needs a dental check? Also, being overweight can cause more cecals and, like you mentioned, he may not be able to reach them. Strange that he’s so chubby with a non-pellet diet.

Hi, Mocha. I edited your pix to within the size that fits the post. When you upload a pix, just drag the corner square toward the middle until the whole image is contained within the posting box you write in.

I agree that it’s just what gets away from him when he can’t reach them all. Does he hoover some of them up after he’s done later?

Pam: Sorry about that! I had to use photo bucket because I had to down grade my computer to windows vista and I have no idea how to use it! Sorry!

He doesn’t seem to go back and eat them, although he could leave more then I see and eat those. I will admit I haven’t spent a whole lot of time just sitting in the bunny room lately.

I don’t know how he is so chubby! Me and my mom agree he got chubbier over the summer when he had to be caged all day and my grandparents. I am hope to start clicker training him and get him to exercise more but who knows if I will ever get around to doing that soon. I will try!

I get cecal wads like that from my buns when they over indulge in the greens. The new bun has had a few too but I suspect he is getting a higjher quality hay and more pellets and greens than before (The rescue is wonderful but I doubt they can afford to feed all their buns the same quality of food) Pascal does go back for a nosh on them sometimes.

Otto gets those stuck to his bum once in a while – he’s just not great at cleaning himself sometimes.

Thanks guys! I didn’t think that they could get the cecals from eating a lot of veggies, I though it was just from pellets that could do that…. If so I have been feeding more veggies then normal, so I could cut back a little.
