A mini-lop was found roaming a residential street about a week ago. I corresponded with the person who found her to give them some information on caring for her. The finder had planned to keep her. I found out today that the finder cannot keep her despite wishing to, so I may go meet her Wish me luck as this could end my search for my 2nd bun !!! This bunny is evidently very friendly and bold. She comes straight to the cage door and lets you pet her. She was CLEARLY someones pet. The shelters in the area know of her being found, but no one has called yet. I expect she was ‘released into the wild’ even though she would never make it

Does anyone know how I can ascertain when I see her if she is spayed?

*Total aside, but my first thought at reading your thread title was, “Well, tighten ‘er up!” *

Oof…I don’t know that you could tell. According to the House Rabbit Society, a vet could shave her tummy and see if they’re able to find a scar, but some stitching techniques won’t leave one. Some vets will tattoo the bun’s tum to show that they’ve been spayed. If there isn’t a scar or tattoo, all they can do is put her under and operate as if they were spaying the first time.

For boys, it might be easier, but male buns occasionally will suck in their testes and make it hard to tell if they’re there or not. X-ray, maybe, in that case? But high excitement for you on the new bun front! She sounds like a sweetheart.

If you take her, you will definitely want to bring her to a vet for a thorough exam before she comes into contact with your current bunny. (Possibly before she comes into your house.) You want to be sure she is free of all parasites and communicable illnesses, in decent health or, if not, what treatment she needs. If there are any serious health issues, you may want to have her at the shelter instead since you would be taking on something major that they are designed to handle and care for. It may be possible that she gets treatment via the shelter, with you agreeing to take her if she gets a clean bill of health at a later date.

This is a worst case scenario, but my advice is still to go directly to your vet and do not pass go. I’m betting that she’s fine and we’ll find you in our bonding section very soon.

Most of our vets here tattoo inside the ear after desexing. I know a lot of people are against it but it certainly saves both animals and humans from grief. The tattoo is generally a small cluster of dots, usually green or blue.
Good on you for taking this little bun. A vet check is definitely the first stop though.

The people who found her have indicated they are taking her to a vet to see if she is in good enough health to even look for a home. I will let you guys know what happens after I meet her and the results of her visit to the vet

The people who found her have now kind of disappeared I’m not sure this is going to happen! Sad!

If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen. If not, when you’re ready, proceed with your original plan of adopting a bunny.

It’s only been a day. They might be waiting until after the vet visit to contact you, not to mention a multitude of other little things that can interupt life like phone service drop outs due to bad weather etc….

It doesn’t look like this bunny is going to happen for me I guess I should be pleased I cannot find a multitude of homeless bunnies in my area!

Is there a number you can reach them on or do you have to wait for them to contact you ?
