I keep my rabbit in a playpen with a floor that is attached to walls of the playpen.  This was fine till awhile ago, when Ashes decided he would claw at the floor until it ripped and he chewed up the pieces of the floor that he could get loose.  Due to this reason I want to put in a material for his flooring, but I don’t know what to use that is rabbit safe.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?  I just want a nice bottom that protects the wooden floor and wouldn’t hurt him if he ingests it.

I actually had the same problem I assume your talking about the playpen that has the mesh fabric type of floor. I got rid of that cage because I build something better. What I use is ceramic tile. I went to lowes and it cost under $5.00 for the floor of my buns cage. On top of it i have seagrass mats I purchased from bunnybytes. The seagrass mats are sewn together. Plus it will keep bunny cool in those hot summer days. Hope this helps. Its also very rabbit safe!

I bought a sheet of plywood for the floor and covered it in sticky-backed tiles. It’s worked well for us

That’s a big challenge, finding a good bunny flooring! I congratulate you bunparents on your suggestions!

Another idea is using corflute or coroplast. Its waterproof, easy to clean, and you can shape it. Not too mention that they come in very large sizes.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I’m going to attempt to switch the flooring ASAP to one of the ideas you all suggested. Thank you for all your suggestions. I really appreciate it.

The only time Finn digs and chews at the flooring/carpet is when he doesn’t have a chew toy laying around. As long as he’s got hay or a willow stick to munch on he leaves the flooring alone. maybe your bun is the same way?

Zoologist- I wish that were the case with my bunny, but he has tons of toys in his playpen and still likes to dig and chew on everything. He has hard plastic baby toys, willow sticks and lots of hay to keep him busy.

This is the flooring I use for Rex’s cage. I found it at Target (in Minnesota, USA) for $10 for a single mat, about 3ft by 5ft. Not sure where to find it online . I use two to cover all of Rex’s cage, but it’s durable and easy to move and cut to fit dimensions, and Rex can’t chew chunks off or dig it up to expose the carpet underneath. It’s ribbed for good footing too, so he doesn’t slip (Rex won’t walk on slick surfaces) . It’s also super easy to clean!

It’s meant for utility use in shops, garages, and similar workplaces so it’s pretty heavy duty.

I use the rubber mat to put his metal cage onto. I’m scared if I use this as the floor to the playpen, he’ll eventually somehow dig or chew it up. It does make cleaning up a whole lot easier though.

Would pine plywood be safe for the bunny? I know there are some woods that aren’t rabbit friendly. Another question, would covering it with fabric be a good idea? I’m scared if I do tiles, that he’ll have no traction in the cage.

I floored my old bunny room in the same stuff as Sam&Amp;Rex posted-it was wonderful, easy to clean, great traction and we floated it right on top of carpet.
Coroplast is a great cheap flooring but you often need to put carpet remnants on it as it’s slippery.
My current set up as carpet tiles as the flooring, they are rubber backed, 12×12 and have such a low pile it’s impossible for my bunnies to chew it. Underneath I have the rubber puzzle peices that provide cushion.
