I got my four baby buns spayed and neutered yesterday, two are 4lbs (the girls) and the other two are 2.5lbs (the boys), theyre about 17 1/2 weeks old. We were very lucky as when they spayed them neither were pregnant yet I never separated them. Upon returning home yesterday they were very sleep and huddled together the first few hours. They peed everywhere but the letterbox, where before they were very good about using their box, perhaps they just hurt too much? They hadn’t eaten all day at the vet despite them trying so I offered them veggies. Took a few bites. By this morning they were all gone (a good 4 cups) but very few pellets were gone and it looks like their hay wasnt even touched. There are some very large poops that are like logs 4x their normal poop size theyre very dark and wet then there were also very small hard dry ones and some very very very tiny ones like the size of the cecotropes but not mucousy just very small and hard. Should I be worried yet? I know everyone has eaten some veggies but not sure about pellets and hay. Should I  not give them their veggies in hopes they will be hungry enough to eat the pellets and hay? Is there anything I can do for them?

Definitely keep feeding them the veggies — you don’t want them to stop eating. And if thats all they’ll eat then don’t take it away from them. Both of my boys popped back really quickly but my girl was very depressed and it’s not unusual for it take lots of coaxing for the girls to begin to eat again. Keep an eye on them all and make sure they are ALL eating though.

Have you separated them? You should really separate them to ensure no one tears out or rips on anyone elses stitches and bunnies will still have hormones in them after the procedure so you don’t want them fighting. Right now is probably one of the worst times for them to fight with everyone in the process of healing.

TLC is the most you can do — especially for the girls who will take the procedure (most likely) harder than the boys.

I havent separated them, the vet said no need. I never had fighting before just chasing between the boys, which is still happening. Rosie one of my girls actually bounced back the fastest, then Charming (the bully male), then Derek (getting picked on by charming still), and Rascal is taking some coaxing still we went into this thinking Rascal was a boy, surprise its a girl! so now i have to rename her. At this point Rosie, Charming, and Derek are eating pretty well but Rascal will only eat carrot tops and cilantro which is better than nothing, but i have to hand feed it for her to eat. Wont separating them disrupt the rebonding process? I just want them all to get along like they used to before the hormones kicked in

Being as they are so young it won’t disrupt the bonding process. The fact that you said one of them is picking on another (chasing) bothers me. They really should only have very limited activity while healing. I would at least separate them for a few days. You really don’t want to risk coming home and seeing one of your buns bleeding out because of an easily avoided fight.

I also worry that one of the boys may try and hump a girl. That could quite easily rip apart her stitches in which case you’ll have an emergency. Even if your boys havent began humping, they still have hormones as of right now and it’s still possible for them to start out of nowhere.

When I had to separate my buns a couple weeks ago because charming got head tilt, rascal went into a terrible depression. Since Rascal is still not bouncing back I really dont want to take her away from charming. Rosie and Derek are very tight so if i were to separate it would be boy/girl. When I said chasing I dont mean like running around non stop. But more of Charming chasing derek away from whatever charming doesnt want him near. Example: Derek is in the cage (they have a cage but are never locked in it) and Charming comes in…charming chases derek out. But there isnt ever any fighting. Im home all day as its still winter break so I check on them every 15 minutes or so if im not already in their room (which i usually am). Do you really think it is in their best interest to separate…especially after what happened last time?
