        Hello,

Bilbo is a house rabbit and has his litter box in one corner of his cage, with his litter. He’s 5 months old now and has been castrated. He’s been such a good boy and always pee’d in the litter box but I have changed the litter because the one I was originally using was costing me too much so I’ve changed to a cheaper one but it’s still wood litter just abit different to his usual one I guess but he’s now pee’ing just outside his litter tray instead.. I’m currently putting in some of his current litter and some of the new one to try to teach him it’s ok to pee in his litter tray with different litter but he’s not playing ball! Any suggestions?

        Elle.

Was he neutered recently? Sometimes that can throw off good litter-box habits for a bit. Does he have access to hay in his box–sitting in a litter-box and having a munch while going seems to be pretty common and may make him hang out in the box long enough to take care of business. If the new litter is bigger than the old, it might be uncomfy on his feet. I use pelleted, recycled paper litter and cover it over with a layer of hay–Nibs seems to like that better than trying to stand on the pellets. My only other suggestion would be to move the litter tray over the area where he’s urinated, soak up some of the urine on a bit of paper towel and burying it in the litter to give him a little, “Hey! Go here!” olfactory sign.

I once changed my rabbits litter too and she started doing the same thing. I ended up mixing her old litter with the new litter and it seemed to help. I also agree with putting a layer of hay on top of the litter.. that also helped!
