It won’t hurt him, but probably it won’t be very comfortable for him either. Is it just for a quick pic or for a day or so? You should have in mind that your rabbit already has a thick and warm fur, so clothing on top could make him too warm. Also, he might panic because he will feel trapped. There is really no way of knowing how he will take it.

It really depends on your bunny and the shirt.

Some shirts for pets are especially made to be calming and reduce stress, so shirts aren’t always bad, but I think even for those shirts, it needs some training before the pet gets the full benefit from it.

If he will tolerate it for a couple minutes while you take a picture, that should be fine. Any longer than 5 minutes tho could cause a problem like Karla said. And he should not be allowed to run around the house with it on. He may get caught on something and panic. If you put it on, keep him confined in an xpen or a small space for your picture.

hi guys, thanks for the reply!
yup it’s just for a picture but i’ve decided not to put it on my male bunny as based on his character, i think he’ll not like it. the female is more easy going, so maybe put it on her for a minute, snap a pic and take it off. hahaha
              thanks for your help!

I think that’s wise. If it attaches easily, like with velcro so can be removed very fast it isn’t as bad for the time it takes to snap a pix.
However, the larger risk as I understand it is if your bunny panics, struggles, squirms while putting it on or trying to take it off. They have very fragile backs, so in any circumstance where a bunny struggles to be free of being held, you need to let them loose (not from a great height either) rather than hold tight. Once loose, it can catch on something as Beka pointed out.

I’m partial to hats on bunnies for that reason. Sure, they flick off quickly, but you can usually get a cute shot. Even better, a cute setting that they can just be themselves and sit in sometimes make the most adorable photos. (Easter baskets containing bunnies for example.)

My bunny has advised me, “Why try to improve on perfection? Rabbits are always impeccably dressed; gilding the lily is not required.”

My lop Bindi is pretty easy going and tolerates little costumes but Olivia is very high strung and will not. When I dress her up, I put like a cape over her shoulders or a hat. I don’t see any harm in quickly dressing up bunny for a quick picture if they will allow it and safety is priority. Check out our Halloween Costume Contest to see pics of my bunnies in their costumes. Olivia’s costume is just draped over her back.
