Stickers is a very skittish rabbit, loud noises spook her badly. New years fireworks started at 11 and kept going til after midnight. Now, Stickers won’t eat and is laying stretched out like she has an upset tummy. She isn’t tooth grinding and bf put her on his chest in bed to give her tummy massages and she pooped and peed on his shirt from it. Since it is new years all the vets are out … how long before there is risk of stasis? There is a vet that I _may_ be able to get ahold of tomorrow if she still isn’t eating. She wouldn’t take papaya, veggies, pellets or hay. and her tummy was rumbling a little … I can’t find our simethicone after I left it out for bf when I was out of town, ugh. Have to get more in the morning if she needs it, nothing is open here right now. Stupid holidays!
She was hopping around, doing zoomies and chewing stuff before the fireworks started. So she did eat some. But she didn’t eat her pellets today since I feed it before bed.

Give her some space and some long gentle tummy stroking at intervals. Pepper went through this when my roof caved in, well, not when the roof caved in but when they put the house back together. By the next day she was fine and demanding treats as usual. That was after spending hours running in and out of the sleeping box thumping and insisting I climb into the hutch with them for safety (wasn’t going to happen !!)

She most likely will get back to normal once it has quieted down and she can rest. But, in the mornign if she isn’t back to normal definitely go get teh simethicone. And make sure the BF knows where to put it away

Aww….poor bun. Fireworks are incredibly scary to most animals.

              How is she today?

Thanks guys. Her appetite is a little better today, but still not normal. She took papaya treats and ate a tiny bit of pellets, but she is usually gobbling her pellets, Powders pellets and begging for more so she is still a little queasy. But she’s hopping around a little, at least. Stayed up til 2am checking on her and she ended up thumping at me cause she hates being touched, even though she allowed the tummy massages. lol Hoping she gets her full appetite back as the day goes on.

She wasn’t as spooked on the 4th about fireworks, but the ones they were shooting off here last night were LOUD. And it wasn’t a display, so wasn’t a safe ways away, it was neighbors shooting them off over our house. Gr. She chose to hide in her closet through it, which is right near the window closest to the neighbors house, so made it worse on herself.

Powder wasn’t even phased, he’s such a laid back bun, you can stomp next to his face if you want as long as you’re petting him he doesn’t care. He spent the night in the corner of the closet away from her, usually they sleep near each other, but she wanted her space so he was relegated to corner duty with no blankies cause she stole them all and wasn’t accepting anyone getting near her.

Oh no, poor Stickers! I’m glad to hear that she’s eating a little more today. Does she have interest in any other kinds of foods?

She still isn’t showing interest in hay, her toys etc like normal. But she ate some pellet dinner and had some salad when I gave them some. Powder was being rude since she isn’t feeling so well, usually she steals food out of his mouth and runs away with it being the dominant bun. But, since she is not her usual perky self, she took a leaf of greens and he stole hers and ran away with it. Mean boy. I had to move the greens under her face so she could eat what she wanted without him being a bully.

I got a new bottle of simethicone in case she needs it. It is in a drawer and bf isn’t allowed to move it. And got a new fresh batch of greens for them so she has extra enticing food to keep her appetite going.

That’s good she ate her pellets and salad. Greens are high in fiber and they also have the hydration that is important for any gut slow-downs. So hopefully tomorrow she will be back to normal. Keep us updated.

                        The poor darling. I hope she’s back to normal soon. {{{{{Stickers}}}}}

It would be nice if people warned their neighbours when they are going to use home fireworks.

I hope she’s better today. I am wondering if it coincidentally coincided (say that 3 times fast) with a bit of an illness that had her feeling down and more sensitive to begin with. Glad you got the simethicone. Keep a watch out and hopefully she will improve with fresh poos, fresh hay, water and greens. Is there a way to insulate her from sound for a bit, like a towel over the cage on the wall side to cut down any new noises that may disturb her? Sometimes playing soothing music like white noise in the background may help. (I don’t like your neighbors.)

It may not be related to the fireworks at all if she is still not eating – that may just be a coincidence. How is she now?

Fireworks are fun until you have pets that are afraid of them-then you tend to loath those holidays! Mikey gets really scared of them, but I’ve found when I know they are coming if I turn on music/TV that it really helps to cover the noise and he sometimes doesn’t notice them! You might try watching TV very loudly on the 4th of July and see if that helps at all

Her area isn’t near the TV they have their own room and she eats electronics so I don’t have any noise makers in there. I guess I could try to find like a battery operated radio with no cords for the next holiday. Though, for the 4th, they shoot off fireworks from the 1st to the 7th here and it’s during the day, during the night, until 3am, etc… can’t leave loud noise up that late. Normally she doesn’t get stressed enough to cause an issue, she just sits and thumps/grunts/startles and takes off running all day. But, these ones were particularly loud, much more so than last time… I guess the holiday OT everyone is getting meant they could afford bigger fireworks. :s And she’s so anti-social hands-off that I can’t comfort her when she’s scared, she’d prefer I just stay far, far away.

She’s back to herself now. She ate her dinner and salad and dragged all the hay out of the litter box to eat it in the middle of their carpet and poop all over it like normal. *rollseyes*

And yes I loathe the holidays that involve fireworks. My bird has night frights, so I sometimes have to towel him and handle a broken blood feather. The rabbit spooks like a predator is coming the entire time she can hear them. The neighbors dogs are scared of them (the ones shooting off the fireworks) and they are forced to be outside during it, so they sit by the door in the backyard crying for their owners to let them back inside because they are scared, so I try to give them some attention too since it calms them. When I had dogs of my own, my one dog would bark at them to try to protect everyone and the other would get so scared she’d try to chew through walls to get away from the noise. :s

It’s possible she had an upset tummy for other reasons, but she was acting fine about an hour before the fireworks started (even did zoomies!) so i’m guessing ti was the stress (especially since all she ate in between was hay). She’s very easily stressed out, even me walking still spooks her, unless I purposefully go very, very slow and baby talk to her as I walk through the room. I don’t know if she’s just a very naturally skittish bun, or her time as a special needs kids pet caused her to be extra spooky (yes let an 8 year old with autism have solo care of a young rabbit with no parental care, great idea!).
