Closed cardboard boxes should work fine as long as the hay isn’t stored too long (molding etc).

I wish you guys would have responded sooner. I punctured holes in the sides of both boxes, to bad though i cut(kinda) my hand pretty bad. first cut wasnt so bad i was distracted by somebody. second time i figured if i held the scissers a certain way it would prevent myself from getting cut, little did i know the back of the scisser would scrape in to the side of my finger. Youchhhhh!
              Thanks though.
