i built half of a second level for callie. because of the way i have my xpen positioned, i had to build the level above her litter box. when she’s on the ground she’s still fabulous with her litter habits, but when she’s up she has started using the corner ABOVE her litter box as a new litter area. i really wouldn’t mind putting a second litter box up there, but the level only about two feet deep and i’m nervous that with her penchant for rearranging the litter box will go crashing down and make a huge mess. suggestions?

Maybe a small cat box in that corner? In the corner of the box, about an inch down from the top edge, drill a hole. You can loop a cable tie through the hole and around one of the bars. This will snug the box into the corner of the pen and it won’t be moved.

I ditto, Beka. To clean the litterbox you can get one of those triangular shaped litter scoops.

You could attach the litter box with zipties.

Yes, this is what I’ve done.  A loose ziptie can be snapped to the pen with a leash clip.  If you are using a dog xpen right now that has several leash clip closures, you can even use one of those.

You can have two litter boxes – one inside of the other. One that is screwed tight, and then just put the other one inside of that. This way it stays in place and you can still pull it out for cleaning etc I’ve seen someone do this, I think maybe it was budget bunny

I had exactly the same issue – a second litter box ziptied to the corner (I just drilled holes through the plastic in 2 corners) worked fine. I have come to accept that if they decide to use a new place in their cage as a toilet you’re better off just going with it and sticking a litter tray there – fighting it doesn’t work!

svandis that’s a great idea, thanks! as of now she has been using the litter box well and it is unsecured. if she knocks it over then i’ll use your idea.
