Well….naturally she had to have potential problems on a holiday weekend.  LOL

Last night when I got Lolli to snuggle, I noticed it was wet under her left eye.  So I immediately checked her out.  Took a tissue and wiped and the wetness was like tears – just watery.  I don’t know if she just needed fussed over or what, but we ended up having a marathon snuggle session last night.  About 1 hour and 15 minutes.  During that time, I kept wiping her eye with a tissue and eventually the tears/liquid quit and I thought it was just a fluke or something.  Well, I just checked on her and under the eye is crusty and her eye is slightly crusty but there is NO SIGN of infection.  It just seems like regular eye crustiness that they get.  So I’m thinking there might something going on with a tear duct?  Do they even have those?  Really, there is no gunkiness or any sign of potential infection.  It’s just clear liquid that dried and made her fur crusty.

I doubt the vet is going to be open on Monday with it being christmas eve.  So I’ll have to wait until Wednesday.  In the meantime, is there anything at all I can do?  Wipe with a very diluted saline solution?  Any ideas?

Since her eye is not swollen and looks fine, I am not completely freaking out yet.  But I’m almost there.  lol  I’ve checked her ears, nose, and mouth as much as I could.  They all seem fine.  Felt her cheeks, there’s no lumps.  Her eating and everything seems fine.  Her behavior is fine in general except for apparently needing fussed over last night.  Today she is back to her normal leave me alone self.  lo

Only the vet can diagnose, but yes, they definitely can have a blocked tear duct, and the rusult is exactly as you’ve described. If your vet might be open today, it’s possibly worth a phone call to ask if a regular appointment is available, and if not, to go ahead and schedule an appointment for later in the week during normal hours. That should spare you any emergency charges which don’t sound necessary from the lack of other problems.

I only say this because my Spockie had a blocked tear duct that made him weep clear tears every few months or so. No other problems, and once the vet diagnosed him (she used this cool blue light to look into his eye) she prescribed an ointment that I used. It was a dab of goo in the corner of his eye that melted with his body heat, flushing the eye and clearing the duct. It always worked after just a day or so, I kept it in the house and from then on reapplied it as needed with a fresh tube on occasion. So if that’s all it is, I can reassure you on that point.

My only concern is if it’s more than that. You’re watching closely, and with normal behavior, eating, pooping, no nose discharge, no respiratory issues and no meatloaf position or grinding teeth, I’d guess that you’re safe to make an appt. for Wednesday. I change my mind very fast on that, however, if ANY other symptoms show up.

Keep an eye on it (sorry ). A bit of a leaky eye is usually not an emergency but def get a vet to look at it if it continues. How is her eye now?

She could have gotten something in it.

Have her teeth been checked recently? Leaky eyes can be a symptom of dental issues.

When I took her last May for her ear infections, they did a full wellness exam and said her teeth were all fine. But that doesn’t mean a spur didn’t form in the meantime or she has other dental issues.

Her eye is still weeping. It is not constant and seems to be worse in the morning. Which is….odd but oh well. lol Her behavior and eating/pooping is still all normal. She’s definitely not feeling bad cause she’s getting spunky with me about checking her eye. She’s tired of me messing with her. I also got thumped at this morning when I got her to check her over. She wanted more treats. LOL Since her behavior is all normal, I made an appointment to take her in on Saturday morning. That is the best time that works for my schedule this week. I will continue to keep an eye on her. No pun intended. LOL

I just remembered that there’s been a couple of times where she gets hay dust or pellet dust on her head cause she gets RIGHT in there when I’m giving her more of both. I brush it off but perhaps some got in her eye and irritated her. But that’s been a couple of weeks ago. Who knows. We’ll see what they say on Saturday. lol

Is her eye still weeping today?

She could definitely need her teeth looked at again. Bindi had his molars trimmed in April and is due again. Spurs can pop up quickly.

Yes, it’s still weeping a little. I pulled down her lower lid and it’s red and looks irritated. But everything else is fine and the weeping is still clear. So now it’s just keeping a watch on it and waiting until 8am Saturday when we leave for our 8:20 vet appointment. LOL She is over me wiping her eye with a tissue to remove the wetness. So it’s gonna be good fun actually treating it. LOL
