I have been working on my f/m pair for several weeks now. We have done carrier time and then neutral. It really has gone remarkably well. The last neutral time was an entire day in my laundry room. There was some serious mounting on my females part and then lots of snuggle and grooming sessions. I really thought they were ready to move into the area where they will both live, but when I put them in there they fought (after things going really well for the first few hours). I don’t know what the trigger is, but it seems my female becomes the nervous nelly when they go back into their area. My male will run past her and she is spinning around with her ears thrown back, then she chases him trying to nip him in the butt. I am going to do more carrier time tomorrow and then neutral again. How do I make the transition into their shared space go more smoothly?

Tried putting a stuffed bun with his scent in there with her? Maybe if she gets her aggression out on that she won’t feel so nervous with him. With my two I kept a spray bottle for chasing that got out of hand, seemed to stop it before it reached nip stage.

What do you mean by carrier time?

Most people suggest letting the buns live together for 24 hours to several days in a neutral area before moving them permanently to their shared space.

I put them both in a carrier and took them for a car ride. I have also done carrier time in the laundry room as the sound of the washer stresses them a bit. I am going to leave them in neutral for a few days, thanks.
