I was cleaning my rabbit’s cage; she’s about 10 years old and I’ve had her for the past 7. I let her out of the cage while I cleaned it, as I normally do, and she walked up to my leg and bit me. This was the first time she’s done something like this, and I would have dismissed it if she didn’t repeat this behavior a few more times. (Also she’s fixed). I’m just trying to figure out if there’s an underlying reason, such as sickness. Last month, her mate, Thumper, passed away and it seemed that she’s been able to cope, but maybe this isn’t the case? With the exception of the first few days after his passing, she’s seemed perfectly normal up until now.

        Thanks for your help.

It wouldn’t hurt to have a complete check up for her at this age. It is possible she is feeling sad about losing her mate too. I would first try and rule out any medical and if all is good, maybe just give her extra attention.

I agree that a vet checkup may be in order, if not for this then definitely for her age. Was it an aggressive bite to break skin, or more of a nip?

I agree with the two above me.you should take her to the vet as nipping or biting can be a sign of pain. But if not it could very well be that she’s upset that she lost her friend. Try to give her lots of attention and love (:
