Should i completely remove raisins from Seymour’s diet since his stomach is being funny.  He has gas issues and i;m going out of town, trying to make sure things run smoothly for the sitter. Usually give him 1 raisin and a little sliver of a carrot. What do you think?

I think that would be a good idea. How long are you going to be out of town? I think it would be a good idea to tell your sitter what signs to look out for in case of emergency GI stasis, and leave instructions on how to contact your vet.

7 days. i told them to give him gas medicine every other day, just in case. is that a bad idea?

You mentioned he had some dental issues, I suspect this is the reason for the “gas”.

Seymour has always had tummy issues. He had to be taken to the vet to remove the gas pressure once.

I’m going to suggest something slightly different. While I wouldn’t give a handful of treats and walk around, it’s specifically when your bunny has suspected dental or gi issues that you should be ‘checking’ on him by using a treat. Simply a rabbit who is in acute distress is going to turn down his favorite raisin. A rabbit who is feeling ok will take it. So while I would maybe reduce them a bit, I would not eliminate them as they are a good test of how he is feeling.

thanks. i decided to keep the treats on an “every other day” basis exactly for this reason. with a sliver of carrot given daily.

what else does he eat? It could be something else in his diet causing the gas.

                        A quick note about raisins:

Pie loves her raisins, but I stopped giving them to her after the huge GI stasis incident. Apparently the high Iron and sugar content of raisins promotes difficulty in pooping. I don’t know if anyone else has had the same problem.
