When I first got peach and shamus they were eating large amounts of hay and were always excited when given fresh hay. However now they seem to be eating hardly any I always replace and give them fresh stuff they might nibble one few pieces but they just don’t seem interested any more. They are still pooping lots and everything else is normal. How can I encourage them to eat more hay? I have some hanging above there litter box and some in a hay wheel.

Have you switched types or brands of hay recently? What hay are you feeding?

No it’s the same as they have always had. Oaten and medow hay. I have just ordered some Timothy hay from ebay that I will hopefully get around christmas time so I hope they like it. I have been trying to buy some for ages but no where near me sells it. Thank goodness for ebay!

Some bunnies just need a constant change in flavor of hay. You could have some picky little rascals on your hands! I know BB store and some other places sell stuff you can sprinkle on their hay to make it more appetizing to them!

I can’t remember how old your buns are? They’re not on unlimited pellets are they? And you’re sure you’re feeding them the right amount? I know my buns would always fill up on pellets and shun the hay. When we limited down more pellets they were back to munching greedily.

They are about 13 weeks old I think. They are definitely not on unlimited pellets because I think shamus would just eat them until he popped! Peach gets a small a handful morning and night and shamus gets a but more because he is bigger.

I have the same problem. Pie almost never eats hay. All I can get here is fresh mountain hay, not much else that is properly packed and branded so that I kno’w the contents are safe. I’ve read that you can hold the hay over a pot of boiling water, steaming the hay for 15 seconds or so. I have yet to try though. I even have a fancy ball that turns on a spindle in which I put the hay…to no avail
