I have an xpen and each panel is 28″ long (a little longer than your average xpen) however at the moment it is shaped in a rectangle (6’10” by 28″) and only one rabbit lives in it.

If I were to transform it into a square the measurements would be 56″x56″ which is approximately 4.6 feet. Is that big enough for TWO average sized rabbits? 4-6lbs? I do plan on making like a second level but I don’t know how to make one. I currently have a shelf which is only 40″ by 27.5″ and 18″ off the ground and the rabbit that lives in there has no problem jumping up on it – he jumps onto my bed all the time which is 24″ off the ground, however I want to make an actual LEVEL and not just a shelf. I want to make the second level 55″x55″ with a small cut out where i will put a ramp so my rabbits can get up it easily. This second level will be 24″ off the ground (a little taller than the second shelf I have in my rabbits at the moment, because I want to encourage them to use the ramp because I’m worried that they may hit their heads if they tried to jump through the opening) But I mean ramps DO take up a lot of space just because of how they are, so Im still a bit wary about that.

I am going to take out the second level today because it’s old and my rabbit has been biting/ scratching at the vinyl stick on tile so it is now all mangled and gross – I will probably skip the stick on tile and buy the stuff that comes in a roll next time. What are your opinions? I have considered making an NIC cage, however I DID try to make one and it was not sturdy at all. Plus I can imagine it being very costly with the plywood and all, however money isn’t really an issue, but if what I have now is okay then I’d rather keep what I have. I am moving in a couple of years, so I will have more room then – hopefully.

Hi, It sounds like you are aware of needing more space with two bunnies, either up and down or a larger area. If money is no object, you might want to research larger habitats that are multi-level and designed for two bunnies. I know Sarita love Leith Petworks habitats. If you have the room to attach another xpen you can expand for now and collapse it after you move, or after you have constructed a condo you like. I would check out the photos on the other pages of bb to see what people have made for their multiple bunnies to get some good ideas.

I have been on that website but the prices are extremely high! Money isn’t really a BIG issue, BUT I am tight on money as it is.A cage that is 2Wx6Lx3H (NIC cubes) is pretty much the same as my xpen at the moment? So it would seem pointless to build a nic cage, since my xpen is literally the same just an inch or 2 shorter in length. Ugh I don’t know, I am VERY limited in space for the time being.

Actually I am able to make it bigger, is 56Wx84L big enough? it is 42″ tall so I could build some levels!
