So unfortunately at the vet, I found out that Heina has ear mites and an ear infection.

Probably because her previous owners had her living in the basement of a sketchy ass farm

So anyway, my vet prescribed me Revolution Cat or Selamectin; which i’m supposed to apply inbetween her shoulder blades.

I’m worried that when i’m going to go do this that she is going to hop / run away and i’m going to end up wasting the medication.

Has anyone had to give their bun this medication before or anything like it?

Any tips on how to give it to them?

Any other tips on how to get rid of a buns ear infection or ear mites?!  I can tell the mites are bothering her, i don’t want her to suffer any longer!

Hi, yes I’ve given it before. Did your vet give you the kitten/puppy one or the cat one? Do you know how much Heina weighs?

It’s usually pretty effective so I hope it gives her relief soon. If you like, you can cut away a little if the fur where you are going to apply it. Makes it easier to get it onto the skin.

If the ear mite is persistent, your vet might give an injectable form of this med.

            Hello!

My vet gave my the 1 month or 5-15LBS cat verison, so I guess that means kitty verison haha.
And she weighs about 7 pounds I believe.

What would I use to cut away the fur if i decided to do that? Just regular scissors or would i need to go out and get actual grooming ones?

And i’m definitely going to ask about the injectable form of this medication when I call in about the refill, thank you for telling me about that!

I use scissors from a first aid kit because they have rounded ends. You probably don’t need to cut away fur as its thinner around the neck and shoulder blades anyway.

I believe what they use for oral or injectable version is ivomectin. Selamectin is a form of this.

I guess he gave you that one because she’s a medium sized bun. I think the kitten/puppy one is for animals up to 5lbs.

Just an fyi: the skin between the shoulder blades is often used because I heard there are fewer nerve endings there, so it actually won’t bother your bunny as much as other locations on their body might.

Rounded tip scissors are a good idea. If you get those small cat scissors, you can use them for toenail clipping later on as well. Manicure scissors are also small but tend to be very sharp, so be careful.

I would put bunny up on a table or counter to do this so she doesn’t hop away. This is how I groom my buns. I sit them on the table on a towel. Just be careful and never leave bunny on a table unattended. Doing something unpleasant like meds should be followed by a small treat so you end on a positive note. My buns expect a candy (dried papaya) after meds and grooming.

I just gave her it about 10 minutes ago, and i’m a little concerned.

i sat down in her room with her and once she hopped over to me i gave her a head rub with one hand and gave her the medicine with the other.
Almost immediately after she basically did the shaking thing as if she was a dog who just got out of a bath, if you know what i mean?
And started licking the area where i put the medicine, i tried to get her to stop and also gave her a giant thing of broccoli (her favorite) to try to distract her.

Does it seem like I did it okay? Or do you think her shaking and messing with it afterwards messed it up?
