        Hi Everyone,

It’s been a while- hope things are good for all of you. I’m trying to save $$ and I read that wood stove pellets make great litter,  So I got North American ,Stove Pellets, but want to check it out here first. I read that some hardwoods can be poisonous to rabbits. The pellets I got say “Hardwood/Softwood”  but there’s no list for what kind of hardwood.

Has anyone used North American Pellets with success? I really appreciate any replies

        Thanks!

        Dee

It should not be a problem with the wood stove pellets because of the way they are treated.

The only thing you have to be sure of when using wood stove pellets is that they are plain pellets and not treated with accelerants. Any of the plain wood stove pellets should be fine to use in a litter box.

              Ditto tobyluv’s advice.

For sure they are ok I think hardwoods are only toxic if slightly wet. So like Sarita said, the treatment dries it out and it’s safe.

Thanks to all of you! I will start using them tomorrow. I’m gonna use the pellets on the bottom of the box, then a layer of Carefresh over it for softness. This should help save $$ though- I was going through a huge $25 bag of Carefresh every 2 weeks. We must use the expensive white kind cuz Bun Bun eats anything else :/ . My little high maintenance man. Well thanks again everyone- happy holidays!
