        Hello guys,

Soooo i must have been very naive before considering I have been buying pellets for my buns from Wal-mart..the more reading i have been doing on these forums the more I’ve begun to realize that rabbit foods from such places are not always a healthy choice.  I would love your feedback on whether or not I should discontinue to use these pellets. There are no seeds or anything in it, just pellets. They seem to be alfalfa based and my buns are 7 months old.I’m not even sure when to switch the pellets to timothy based? I think it’s once they reach 1 year old..?

The price for the pellets is awesome, so it would be good if we dint have to change them. (10 kg for about 20 bucks Canadian)  But I mean if they are no good, I would definitely pay for a better choice

Anyways, here’s the ingredients and nutritional info.

Would really appreciate input on whether it is okay or not THANK YOU in advance !!

Rest assured, you are doing a good thing in wanting to switch your bun’s pellets!

The ingredient list looks quite scary! The first ingredient is always the one that has the highest amount in the food, and corn is definitely not one that you want to have in bunny food. I have found the ingredients for the ‘Oxbow’ brand timothy pellets:

          Ingredients

Timothy Grass Meal, Soybean Hulls, Wheat Middlings, Soybean Meal, Cane Molasses, Sodium Bentonite, Soybean Oil, Salt, Lignin Sulfonate, Limestone, Yeast Culture (dehydrated), Vitamin E Supplement, Choline Chloride, Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Niacin, Copper Sulfate, Selenium Yeast, Vitamin A Supplement, Folic Acid, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Copper Proteinate, Riboflavin Supplement, Manganese Proteinate, Biotin, Manganous Oxide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Magnesium Sulfate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Cobalt Carbonate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Calcium Iodate
          Guaranteed Analysis

          Crude Protein min 14.00%
          Crude Fat min 2.00%
          Crude Fiber min 25.00%
          Crude Fiber max 29.00%
          Moisture max 10.00%
          Calcium min 0.35%
          Calcium max 0.85%
          Phosphorus min 0.25%
          Copper (min) 30 ppm
          Vitamin A (min) 19,000 IU/kg
          Vitamin D (min) 900 IU/kg
          Vitamin E (min) 190 IU/kg

You can already start switching your bunnies to timothy based pellets. What you will need to do is slowly mix in the old pellets with the new, and slowly decreasing the amount of the old pellets daily.

ahh you are totally right..i feel so guilty now.. they have always had this type ..
I am so glad that i realized this sooner than later tho!
I’m just worried about the price for the oxbow…how long does that last you?
It seems as though, I can get it for about 16.99 for a 10lb in Toronto…

I don’t use Oxbow, I use American Pet Diner pellets!

There are other forum members that are from Canada that will be able to help you find places near you that sell Oxbow at a reasonable price!

Don’t worry, we all make mistakes as bun parents!
