My 1year old bunny, Marcel, is litter trained, but in the last few weeks he has been too lazy to go to his litter box while he’s lounging. I’ve also noticed that when he gets excited or we are playing he leaves poops behind as he runs or jumps. I know that he can leave poops if he’s being territorial, as he used to on the bed and couch, but now it just seems like he’s being lazy. He still uses his litter box, as there is his usual mound, but he’s also leaving them behind when he’s stretched out on his rug, in our bedroom or once on my lap.

Is this a hormone thing? A age thing? A lazy thing?

Is Marcel neutered yet? If not then yes, it can be hormonal as well as territorial. Many rabbits just are a wee bit lazy and don’t want to go all the way back to their habitat’s litter pan. One option is to put out a second, or even a third, litter pan in these rooms and get him (pick him up if you see his tail go up and place him in it a few times, along with stray poos) to go in the closest litter pan. If he is due for a neuter, that should help.

            Thanks!
I’ve also been sticker with his rome time lately, putting him in his condo more often, and that has been helping, but your right, he is long overdue for a neutering, but it’s been something we’ve been trying to avoid.

            Thanks again!
