Seymour is really sad. His brother Alfred has been gone for 2 days. He had to be put to sleep. I don’t know what to do. Seymour hasn’t eaten all day, pooped or had any water. he turns his head when i go and talk to him.  I pulled out a stuffed bunny to keep him company. this is so sad!

HI Lexy, You need to get him eating etc. You don’t want him going into stasis. Is their anything you can tempt him with also maybe some tummy rubs and cuddles. Possibly clear a neutral space and lay down and have some one on one time in an area that doesn’t have Alfred’s scent.

You could try force feeding him. The longer he goes without eating the more likely he is to go into stasis and you could have a real emergency on your hands. You can grind up pellets and mix with water and feed with a syringe. If you have critical care-even better. You can mix with apple or grape juice to improve the taste. I would try spending as much time as you can and try eating with him. Keep us posted-poor little guy!

How is Seymour doing? This is kind of messy, but if you’re still having trouble feeding him critical care you could try putting it on his paws- he could ingest it while cleaning himself.

If you make the critical care with more water–more like tomato soup, that may work better, and it will help keep him hydrated as well. Did you give it to him from the side of his mouth. That may be a bit easier on both of you too.

                      How is is doing?

Just try to spend as much time with him as you can and give him lots of pets and affection. If he is still not eating by now, you should see a vet to help get his gut moving.

Just something to keep in mind – I noticed you mentioned that Alfred had an infection? If Seymour doesn’t perk up soon it might be a good idea to consult a vet to make sure that he has a clean bill of health and didn’t catch anything from Alfred. Lack of interest in food is definitely something that can happen to a grieving bunny, but it’s good to make sure that it isn’t for medical reasons.

What are you using to force feed the CC? You can get a feeding syringe at pet stores. What I find works well with my very difficult lop (my vet tech showed me this) take a syringe and cut the tip off. Squirt a little chunk in his mouth, let him chew and swallow, then repeat. It can be a time consuming and messy, but very necessary process.

I really hope your little sweetie feels better soon. **Hugs** I know this is very hard for you since you are still grieving too.

Thanks for all of the advice. Seymour is doing better. He started eating again yesterday afternoon. Nibbling a bit at his veggies, sipping water. Everything was gone this morning when i woke up.

He’s pooping again. Little tiny balls, should i be concerned they are so small? Some are normal sized too…We are both hanging in there.

I don’t think the small poops are unusual if he is just coming around, as long as he is back to normal soon. Hugs and vibes for both you and Seymour!

Poor Seymour. It makes me sad that he turns his head when you talk to him.

Give him some treats like raisin, carrot, or apple. He should be more inclined to eat those.
