First, I wasn’t sure if I should put this in Behavior or Diet. I figured since it’s a behavior while eating, I would put it here, but move me if I’m wrong.

Whenever I feed my bunnies bananas, they twitch. Not a seizure like twitch, but kind of similar to when horse twitches it’s skin to get rid of the flies. I assure you, my rabbits do not have flies on them, haha!

Was just wondering if that’s a normal behavior or if it’s bad?

Also, I don’t feed them bananas everyday. They are used as a treat and they only get a slice or two maybe one or twice a week.

I’m not understanding what you’re talking about. They are chewing on the bananas and their skin twitches?

I’ve seen what you’re talking about, and I am pretty sure it’s a twitch of pleasure. They just sort of ripple their skin as they go for the treat and eat it. You sound like you have a happy bunny who is getting a good treat in a healthy way, so not to worry.

One of my bunnies twitches his back end when he gets banana. I’ve seen other bunnies do this too.

Wow, that is so weird. LOL
My buns don’t do that at all.

Yeah, it’s like a ripple. It is really weird to see. They only do it when they get banana, which is their favorite. I just haven’t seen a bunny do this before, and especially for both my girls to do it! I’m glad it’s a good thing and not a bad thing.

Both of my bunnies do the butt-twitch when eating banana. I practically get mugged whenever I start peeling a banana. This is far away their favorite treat. One of them starts making happy squeak noises while devouring the tiny treats!

                      Hello!
My bun does that whenever he gets something he especially loves, I was worried a bit when I first saw it as well, so glad to hear it’s a happy twitch! ^_^

Yes, I have two that will do the twitch. I think they are just so happy they can’t contain their little bunny selves.

Someone needs to upload a video of this, haha. It sounds adorable.

LOL – I know what you mean, my bun does this when he’s let out of his cage, hubby tried to convince me that he had fleas, until I found information of the internet to prove it’s a happy thing- it is a very odd thing to see. I don’t think us humans can do it, not that I’ve tried – maybe something to try later! X

Both of my buns twitch their tails when they get banana. Meadow is not as noticeable, but Max has severe twitches. First time I saw it, I was very freaked out. But yeah, they just love banana THAT much.

The bunny we fostered this summer did the same thing. Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. Our Dexter hasn’t really done it yet, but he does twitch when we pet his sides – I think he’s ticklish.

Hi! We adopted 2 bunns about 7 months ago. I’ve noticed both of mine twitching also when eating. So, I decided today to Google it. Found this forum,,,,,and oddly, it probably is mainly when I give them banana! Didn’t really think that it was so isolated, but after reading all your comments, it occurred to me that I definitely see them twitch when they get banana. ??. Thank you for weighing in on this matter!
