The only type of hay I have ever fed my bunny is timothy hay, since everyone seems to say that it’s the best type for rabbits. However, my bunny only eats the grassy, soft bits and none of the hard stalk area or seed heads (fuzzy bits). If I were a rabbit, I wouldn’t eat the stalk area too haha. It feels like firm plastic straws!

Is it important for her to eat the hard stalk area? (Like for her teeth and digestion) Or should I just switch to orchard hay? I heard that orchard hay is extremely soft and is composed of just the grassy parts, which my bunny prefers. Or maybe I should mix them? But if I did, I worry that my bunny will be picky and just not eat the timothy hay…

Orchard grass is just fine, as is oat. Sometimes it is better to find them a hay they like than try to force them to eat something they don’t like, resulting in not enough hay being eaten. Try other kinds and find out her tastes

I agree with Monkeybun. Oat is usually a favorite in my house! But we feed only Orchard Grass and Oat as a treat since my BF is allergic to Timothy. You could also try Botanical.

There are many different types of hay cuts out there! The first cut is rough and coarse. The second is much softer. I have found that some bunnies are quite picky with their hay and may snub certain types.

My lady bun prefers a mix of second cute timothy and orchard hay and does quite fine with it.

Orchard grass is a perfectly good substitute for timothy if your bun prefers it.
