Sounds like you are off to a great start and have two very spoiled buns. I would add a rectangular cat litter tray, (line with some paper as they will wee and poop in it) and fill it up with some hay. They love to dive into them and nom out or just have a flop. A bun loves nothing better than to have a poo and chew at the same time.
As to toys variety is the key. Some plastic baby stacking cups they can throw, some nice wooden chew toys, some empty cardboard rolls filled with hay and treats, an old phone book. Mine love this giant plastic cat toy, its a ball with little shapes cut out and inside is a smaller ball with bells. They adore hurling it round the playpen to make the bells ring or hurling it at the stacky cups to make a really good noise. Maybe add some layers (not to close to any area where they can climb up and escape) using cardboard boxes (which they also love to chew so use the plain ones) My Nermal also has one of those fold out childrens sofa’s ($20 at KMart), she loves to shove it about then stand on it to look about. Then there is Frank the Wonder Plushie, a soft toy which Nermal loves, whilst Pepper, Piglet and the girls have made off with my fauzzy orange slippers. Really your imagination is the only limit, just think bunsafe. Could it be toxic, is it safe to chew, could it block up their tummies etc. Check for safety first and if it passes the tests then give it a try and see if they like it.

Welcome! Sounds like you are off to a great start! That’s wonderful you have already given so much room, cages are just too small for rabbits I bet they are loving their freedom!
I would say the first important thing to do is get to a vet and find out what sex they are-if they aren’t already spayed/neutered. Rabbits often get mis-sexed; I’m not sure what you think you have (m-m, m-f, f-f) but it often happens that you have something entirely different and they are quite prolific so it’s best to make sure they can’t breed (i.e. are same sex) or separate until they are fixed.

Easiest way to shrink a pic… Right click, open with Paint. If the pic is so large you can only see about and eighth in the top corner you will need to shrink it quite a bit. Go to the image tab at the top, select stretch/skew or resize if you have that tab. It will ask for an amount type in 30 (for 30% of the original size) then Save As and select .jpg. You will find it is now about 600*400 and fits with no problem. If you are using photobucket or similar there is a resize tab that will take you to the editing page, select adjust, custom it will once again ask for sizes, type in 600 wide and the system will automiatically give you the proportionate height. Click save and replace.

Hi Nichole, Have you checked out some of the toys at the Binky Bunny Store. The cotton tail cottage etc. They are great and the best prices for these items.

Oh wow, they are gorgeous. The one in the back (he looks like a Lionhead) looks EXACTLY like the Lionhead we adopted but had to return to the Humane Society. His spotting is exactly alike!

My buns recently just destroyed the willow barbell we got them too! LOL.

We have a bunny room section in our gallery that definitely needs some updating with more photos. So if you have any wider shots of the room, be sure to email them

and put “Bunny Room Photos” in the subject line.  I’ll then put them in the habitat gallery. Then you can also refer people to the BinkyBunny Habitat Gallery/Bunny Room section. Easy to show off their cool digs.

Brownish wet substance ? Yes.. I would say bunny pee.. It comes in a variety of colours and is always a consternation to new bunny owners. Mine have just about managed the full spectrum of the rainbow. Just very happy it doesn’t get sprayed up the wall anymore.

I would not separate them now unless there has been aggression, it sounds like they bonded immediately if they have been cohabitating with no problems.

EB obviously just needs some litter training, any disruption like a move to a new home can cause litter habit setbacks and it can take a few weeks for them to relearn good habits. Try the cat litter tray I suggested with the newspaper and hay. I had a few problems but as soon as I replaced their normal tray with the big “poo and chew” tray they were fine, we rarely have an out of box incident now.

Hi Nichole, I have had them pee stuff that looked like Guinness on occasion, if they have had too any Craisins it has been red (like the time Nermal pee’d on Pipi’s head and scared me half to death till I figured out what it was LOL) There has been the odd white puddle which generally means restrict their carrot treat or any thing with a high calcium content. Once you get to know what the different colours relate to it’s a good way to monitor and adjust their diet. Still scares the crumpets out of anyone who hasn’t seen it before. Repeated pasty sludge is a “get them to the vet event” not had any of those yet thankfully.

Oh Nichole, How frightening….. Has there been any other signs ? Has EB not been well or behaving differently ? It’s so strange that he could do a complete 180 after they have been getting on well without any trouble.
The important things is Astro OK now ?

I don’t know… I have to keep Pipi and Nermal separate because of fighting. The bond was lost when Nermal was returned, Nermie is fine with the others though, Pipi is the aggressor and she has been spoilt rotten since birth. Pipi does fancy herself contender to Peppers alpha bunny throne though. Maybe its a dominance things. Has there been any territory marking. They are both neutered aren’t they ?

Hi Men, Get him to the vet… Either he is not neutered and has just hit puberty head on or he might have some other problem causing him pain and making him aggressive. Puberty rage would definitely cause the lunging. You could contact the recsue and insist they pay the cost if he was supposed to be done at the time you took him home.

Hi Nichole, Don’t feel like an idiot. It was perfectly reasonable to assume they would be OK if it had gone this long without aggression. If he is 6 months old this is exactly how it can happen. You will probably find once he is neutered you can rebond them just as you planned after a month when his hormones have settled. He won’t be bad for life. Poor little EB is very fortunate to have found you and I think he will be a beautiful bun once he doesn’t have to worry about being a butchy boy. And the good thing is he is at the right age. Old enough to cope well and young enough to adapt and change afterwards.
