        Hi everyone,

I am just after some advise about bonding my 8 month old dwarf cross mini lop, neutered male with a 6-12 month old female lop. (Currently not neutered but would be before she came home). She is currently in a rescue center.

My boy Rex is going on his first bunny date with her this weekend and I was just wondering what I should be looking for when they meet?

I don’t want to take her home and pay for neutering if rex hates her!

Should I keep Rex in his crate and show them to each other or should I put him in the cage with her for a bit?

        Thankyou

Jodie (potential double bunny mummy)  🙂

Is it a rabbit rescue? They should be able to advise you on what is best to help introduce them.

That being said, they should be introduced in a neutral space (neither her cage or his crate). Hopefully they will set up an exercise pen so that they can actually interact with each other.

Like Sarita said, the rescue should have some good tips on bunny dates. Generally, ignoring is good, and grooming is even better. Some display of dominance such as mounting is perfectly normal from both parties, even from females.

              Thanks for your replies both.

The shelter is a general animal shelter so not specifically for rabbits. I have already been to meet Toffee myself and she seems lovely to me! But obviously she wont be my girlfriend so Rex is going to have the last word!

So as long as they dont attack each other you think we would be ok to take her home?

                Update: 🙂

Sooo… Rexy went on his date with Toffee on Sunday, they were put into seperate cages next to each other. Rex sniffed at Toffee a few times but mostly ignored her which I am taking as a good sign! And Toffee was more interested in Rex, but I am assuming that is because she hasn’t been neutered yet.

She is all booked in for her neutering tommorrow and all being well  can pick her up tomorrow afternoon.

                So excited!! 🙂

Update: Picked up Toffee from the animal shelter last night and took her to her new home, I had her neutered yesterday before I got her. I noticed on her notes (being nosy), that she had been seized due to mistreatment by her former owners 🙁
So she has been with us just over 12 hours now and has drank, pooped and eaten so all good signs. She is very jumpy though if she is caugh unaware by my hand putting something in her cage but she nearly goes to sleep when I give her head strokes! She hasnt yet been down to the bottom tier in her cage but im assuming this is just where she is sore from the op.
I will try and post photos soon.
                      Jodie

The poor thing. I’m so glad she is in a loving home now. It will probably take her a while to trust you because of her past. Looking forward to pics.
