  Ok, so this bas been going on for a bit and I “think” its normal because both of my mini-rex’s get this….but I’m at a loss as to why. When I rub their cheeks (face cheeks ) (which they looooooooooove ) I can sometimes feel these little hard chunks in their fur. When I look at them closer, I noticed that they are clumps of hair, but it looks like the folicle is growing out with it. Sometimes the little hard part is green and sometimes its brown. They usually work themselves out at some point, then the clump just comes out together. What is this?? Is it normal??

  Bunjamin gets these. I usually help him if they are ready by really gently pulling on it. He doesn’t mind. I think it’s a normal shedding behavior. If it happens more than once in a while I would consult your vet. Oh and the green ones are most likely from veggie juice

  Dizzie’s are lest frequent, but Cupcake seems to get them more often. She has quite a few right now. I have an appointment with my vet tomorrow, so I will ask him what he thinks. Thanks FF!!! I didnt know what to think of them!!

  I would also see if you can get their teeth checked, especially the back molars. I know a discoloration around the cheeks can be indicative of drool and possible teeth problems. I would just have your vet to look at them just in case. =]

  Thanks, Skipper’s Mama!! I’ll have him look at that also Its weird though, because its just the little fur “chunks”. There isnt any other discoloration on her fur or skin. So weird!!

  Yes, these are normal, and I’ve noticed that there are more of them during shedding time. They shed 4x/year, often 1-2 big ones and 2 smaller ones on average, so you’ll see them often. Pull on them to see if they come out freely, but not so hard that you pull it out yourself. It should just come away in your fingers when they’re really ready to come off. Any discoloration of fur could be a sign of drooling, so it’s a good idea to get their teeth checked as Skipper’s Mama wisely suggested.

  Yay!! I’m not nuts and I dont have nutty bunnies!! Thank you, everyone! I’m definately going to have my vet look at Cupcake today
