Twice this week I've found blood in Jellys pen. It's been near a fairly clear pee puddle. Im wondering if its from his bladder or possibly his butt? Would blood from bladder be separated from the pee though? As if its come out first or after the pee? He has been drinking more and peeing outside of the box a little so it's possible there's an infection... But with blood??
I've checked him over but cannot see where else it's coming from.

We will be going to vet for this and review of his abscess treatment. I'm just wondering what possibilties are I guess.

Any chance it's from a foot maybe?

I had checked them over. He does have small little sores on the hock but they don't look like having recently bled. No blood in the fur near by. He could have groomed it clean but they just don't look irritated enough. Idk

I'm not sure...can you express his bladder and see if you can get him to pee in the sink and see what it looks like? I say try that and see.

Strange....Have you tried looking him over with a hair dryer on cool and low? Sometimes they hide things well. Mikey caught his armpit on barbed wire and though we checked him a few times it was the hair dryer that caught the little scrape he did get.

Sorry Sarita, I didn't see your reply before. I haven't been shown how to do that. Is it just pushing up on the bladder? Would it be painful for him if this is from his bladder though?

What I usually do is put there feet in the seek and start pressing to give the sensation to pee - it may be painful but it is what a vet is going to do to try to express any urine from their bladder and it is what I have done to help sludge pass through on my bladder sludge buns. That is probably the only way you will be able to see if their is urine in the blood - make sure you put the stopper on the drain so it doesn't drain down before you can look at it.

You may not be able to see if but it's worth a try so you can at least examine the urine.

Aww, poor Jelly! I have no additional tips to add but I hope you find out what's bothering him, and that he's alright.

Have you guys been to the vet yet? It's been a few days since you started this post, so I am wondering what you learned.

Oh thanks so much everyone. Our appt is tomorrow. Technically today as its 4am here.

I'm positive it's from the bladder as I found more today. This time some blood mixed with some sediment from bladder. And quite a bit on his blanket. Poor little dude. I hope it's not giving him too much pain. He hides discomfort extremely well I've learnt.

Will keep you posted.

Been to the vet. She's treating for suspected cystitis so Jellys going to be on baytril and metacam. She couldn't feel any stones so hopefully there are none. I'm glad for the metacam. I hate to think he's had pain.

On a good note, his dental situation seems stable. : ) There has been no growth of the jaw abscess since it burst open. It healed well and the meds seem to be keeping things at bay.

I decided last minute to take Jersey in to piggyback Jellys appointment. The vet has a modified otoscope and I wanted her molars checked as she's sensitive about her cheeks been touched. Also she's been not managing food so well.

The vet could see more saliva on one side which told her something was going on so Jersey is currently going under to have that checked. She's in safe hands but I do hate leaving them there.

Awww...I was hoping the blood was just from a little cut or something. I`m sorry I can`t recall, has Jelly had any bladder problems in the past? Sending many ((((Get Well Vibes)))))). I hope you and the vet can get this cleared up very soon.

Hoping Jersey just needs a simple spur trim. (((((Jersey))))))

Thanks LPT

No Jelly hasn't had any bladder problems that I've been aware of. I'm not sure why this has occurred. He's been drinking lots more which i thought was because his teeth might have been starting to bother him again. Hes also been peeing out of the box & his urine has been clear like water. Then the blood...

Hopefully the antibiotic will sort it out for him. He's not going to like the baytril compared to the flagyl he's been having. He loves the flagyl!

Jersey did well. Was pretty woozy once I brought her home but is eating already. I'm surprised as I thought she'd be too sore. They did give her pain med after waking.
I even saw her attempting to eat hay this evening. O.O This is unheard of with Jersey!
She had 2 points taken off upper teeth and multiple small ones off lower teeth on tongue side. I'm really interested to see what difference this will make for her over next few days. I realized on the way to the vet that her birth date is around this time, making her 5 years old. Poor thing, having me cart her if to the vet. I'll have to give her special treat when she's more recovered.

It was an expensive day but I feel the bubs will be sorted now. Fingers crossed we can get them more comfortable.

Thanks for the well wishes and vibes everyone.

Poor Jelly - I hope the baytril clears it right up. Is the baytril compounded? He might like it if it's the right flavoring.

Glad you got Jersey sorted out too - I don't think most people realize how dental points can affect a rabbit's health - I know when I have dental problems, I'm cranky and in pain too. Keep us updated on how she does. I like to do metacam for a few days after dental and sometimes reglan too (on Toffee, not Bobby, Bobby bounces back right away so far).
