Remmy isn't eating his hay or pooping and is inactive!  He responds to me but isn't leaving his spot.  I've been trying to contact a vet all day but all the places I call are closed on Sunday, and when I call the emergency numbers they tell me they don't take care of rabbits!  Who can I call???  What can I do?

Can they at least refer you to somewhere that does?

Gentle Tummy massage can help. And trying to get him moving. Try feeding wet, fragrant herbs to entice him to eat.

Are his ears feeling ing colder then usual?

How long has he been this way?

Problem is, though the gut slow down needs to be turned around, so does the reason as to why it has slowed. Like if a rabbit is dealing with pain (eg. from post -surgery, from an injury or spider bite etc).

He has been this way since yesterday. His hay and some of his greens from yesterday still remain untouched. He was fine in the first half of the day, but in the afternoon was when it began. Usually he is very active in the afternoon and at night runs laps around the bedroom! Last night I offered him some sweet hay to get his appetite up and see if it would encourage him to eat his other hay and greens, but he didn't want even that-he just sat in the corner of his cage (which is always open). He was still there this morning, with his litterbox looking bleak. Usually he is very active and only goes into his cage to eat and poop. I tried the massage in the article and he is seeming a little more active. He ran back to his litterbox so I will see if there are poops or if he just wanted to feel safe. But he is moving around now, which is more than he was doing before.

I don't know what the cause is, but last night Remmy seemed very thirsty, so maybe that is related? The clinics in this area I don't think are rabit-savvy, but there is a clinic 2 hours away that has a rabbit-savvy vet, so if Remmy is not improving we will make the drive. I just wish I could talk to a vet first, which sometimes you can do during the week

When I've done tummy massage with the buns they lay there and allow. Any other time they won't let me touch the tummy. It sort if tells me that tummy discomfort is the problem and the massage is giving some relief.

If Remmy didn't fight it, it might give you a clue also.
You can always try the simithecone that the article mentions too. But it's not a cure-all.

Is he drinking at all?

Perhaps the closer vets could consult with the rabbit savvy one that's 2 hrs away?

He was drinking a lot last night, but I haven't seen much of that today. I refilled his bottle before I went to bed and I put some water in a dish in case that would make it easier for him. I put some wet greens out but he hasn't been interested in anything today

He is letting me massage him-perhaps it is just gas then? I think he is doing better. He spent some time in the litterbox and did the flop...?

A regular flop? Or flop, get up, flop, get up, flop...?

I know seems a silly question but I have seen one if mine do this when he wasn't well.

It's disappointing you got no joy with the emergency clinics. Did they say don't bring him in or were they just forewarning you?

Surely they could do some basics like check temp, check hydration, give pain relief if suitable.
For a gassy tummy (if that) even the car ride to the vet can help.

I'm not sure... Ican bring him in to the nearby clinic for the basics. I think I will do that.

I would also suggest that even if you can't get a really sick bun to a rabbit-savvy vet right away -- you should still take him to any emergency vet clinic right away. Typically, they can check the basics and see if they can figure out what's wrong (if it's simple) or call someone who may know what's wrong and give him a look-over. It's better than nothing in a real emergency. My vet informed me that a lot of emergency clinics know the basics of rabbits, just not extensive, so they can usually do something to help the situation even if they can't actively treat him thoroughly like he needs to be.

You guys can correct me if I'm wrong -- I just heard this from my vet and have always seemed it a good solution if we can't get him to a rabbit-savvy vet right away.

Remmy had the anti-gas medicine and he has begun to eat again! Such a relief!
