I am using Tofu’s old cage for Finn, which is a vast improvement on what he was living in, but still a tad small. Is it ok to keep it as his cage since I have an x-pen permanently attached to widen his playing area until he is litter trained and can be released into the house? He seems to like the cage and often hides in the cubby hole when he’s feeling shy. I don’t see the point in buying a larger cage/making a cube cage when he is going to be a house rabbit?

Here’s what the set up looks like. Old picture with Tofu

First, love the name Finn. It fits him really well.
Bunnies tend to like a place that is just theirs, so they kind hide and sleep. If you’re going to make him a full free roam bun once potty trained and fixed and he’s never locked in the cage, he should be ok for a while. He’s got plenty of room to stretch and run. Store bought bunny cages are rarely adequate or big enough for any bun, so I wouldn’t waste your money if you’re really close to letting him free roam.

I think it looks fine also! No sense in buying a huge cage if he’s going to be free-roam anyways. Such an adorable little fluffer!

For clarification that’s Tofu in the picture, not Finn! Tofu fit really well in the cage, Finn looks a little, well… Cramped. He likes to sit in his litter box. I think once he gets more used to it he’ll start coming out and laying in the open more. I’ll try to get a picture of Finn in the cage today!

                  How big is Finn?
And I lol’d in the other thread, that you had to look up an xpen

Human, check out my thread “love at first sight” in the welcome board. There are a bunch of pictures and the jury is still out on whether he is “big” or not, lol!

Haha yeah, it was the perfect “ah ha!” Moment

Yep, that looks awesome! A lot of people use this configuration as a step up from just the cage, so the bun has somewhere to hide and call “home” as well as a space to come out and run/play.

I have to agree with everyone else. Since Finn is going to be a house rabbit and won’t be cramped in there all day (and you have the xpen around the cage) it looks great. Don’t worry you’re a wonderful bun parent. =]

                          Thanks everyone!

now if I could just get his litter training under control >_<

I think the set up you have now is great. I love the idea that you added an xpen to the cage. You shouldn’t need to go buy a bigger cage. There are a couple of things I would suggest. Having a hidey house. Straw mats and some toys outside the cage to play with. Other than that it is a fantastic set up and you have a very cute little bunny.
