When I decided to get a pet bunny I really wanted a Netherland Dwarf; and now I found one I have fallen in love with. He is a pet quality 8 week old baby. She said his coloring is called Frosty so my son said we should name him Snow Man, but (at least for now) I'm calling him Carmel.

What a beautiful baby...... He has the same markings as my babies. I have always been told that their colouring was seal point of himalayan (like the cats)

Thanks everyone! She sent me a picture of him at 4 weeks old and I loved his coloring but didn't "fall in love" with him. Then today she took a couple of pictures of him and sent them to me (the ones I posted) and I asked if I could come get him tomorrow, lol. It's a little over an hr drive, one way, but I don't mind at all.

Roberta, I know about Himalayan markings. Cats, bunnies, cavies (guinea pigs)... They come in seal point, blue point, etc... But Caramel is not actually pointed and his breeder is a show breeder so I'm guessing she knows what she's talking about. But I love his coloring and I won't be showing or breeding so I don't care what his coloring is actually called.

I do like Snow Man as well, but for some reason when I saw his picture Caramel popped into my head even though hes not dark enough. Lol I think I pictured a caramel frapppuccino. You can see the coloring on his body better in this picture of him at 4 weeks old.

Man, I'm not usually a Nethie fan, but he is SO cute! I wanna smoosh him!

He's SOOOO adorable! And don't worry, I drove an hour and a half 3x time to get all 3 of my buns! I actually love the name Snow Man for him too! Snow(y?) would be such a cute little name for him!!!! Or Snowball!

Thank you. He's home. During the hr ride he was so calm, just relaxing in the carrier. When we got home I just put the carrier in his pen because I plan on letting him use it as a house and so far he hasn't come out of it that I know of.

He's so cute! I actually like the name Caramel for him. xP Question is though how are you going to pronounce it? Car-mull or Cara-mell? =p He's so pretty and looks like he had the same coloring as my Skipper when she was a baby. Hope he brings you tons of happiness and love.

I'm pronouncing it Car-mull but just last night my 16 yr old said it's Cara-mell, lol.

Skipper is beautiful! I would love it if Caramel darkens up like that.

For the first few months Skipper was real light like your little guy. But after her first shed/blow out of her coat her coloring changed drastically. When I get home I'll have to post some pictures for you to see the change. I thought it was real intriuging because I am a first time bunny owner and had no clue that rabbits could do that. I've always been a cat owner and none of my cats had ever done a thing like that before.

I'm a first time bun owner but Ragdoll cats start out almost completely white and color as they grow. Not quite the same though because it starts while they are babies still.

So here's a bit of her color change progression.

Here she is when we first got her (sorry its so grainy it was taken with a phone camera).  You kind kind of see the white and gray in her.

Here she is a few days after we had gotten her.  You can really see the light coloring with the gray tipped edges.  She stayed looking like this until her big coat blow out.

You see the tuffs of where she is losing hair.  She's not so white per say anymore.  She has a yellow tinting to her coat now.

And one more.  This made me laugh so much when she went through the stage of blowing out the hairs on her face.  The poor thing just looked so silly.  You can see the old light coat and the new dark one coming in.  (Sorry again it was taken on a camera phone)

That second pic is just to adorable. Helicopter ears and feet that haven't been grown into = extreme cute.

Skipper was a very cute baby and is a beautiful lady. She's darker than Caramel is at this point so I don't think he'll get as dark as she did. But I can't wait to see how he changes. At what age did Skipper go through this?

Hmmm...It happened in late May early June. So it was right around 6 months. =p I was pretty upset though because I had left for a trip to visit my father in Cali and Skipper was just in the middle of her massive shed. When I got back she was done. I had really badly wanted to document the change. (Haha obsessive bun parent here. ;P) We had joked with my bf's mom (she had watched Skipper while we were gone) that she had accidentally killed her and got us a new one. But there was no mistaking that queenly attitude of her's so there was no way that she had replaced silly rascal. =]

Haha. Thanks LPT! =] Let me tell you I feel in love with Skipper the minute I saw her with her silly floppy ears and big feet.

I wonder if it was the time of year or age?? I would be upset too if I missed getting to watch it happen. That’s funny that she looked so different you could think she was a different bunny.

My buns haven't gone through any big molts yet -- I wonder if they'll ever really change at all....All the adults look exactly like them already... lol. I don't think Tans ever really change much. But when our chocolate Tan was going through a pretty big shedding he looked black a lot of the time. We kept mixing him up for the other black Tans (thank God (?) they all came with tattoos in their ears or we'd have them all sorts of mixed up!)

The girl I got Cocoa from must be somewhat new to bunnies because he was/is shedding and is new coat is darker. But she didn't know what (or why) was going on, lol. After reading up on bunnies I figured he was/is just "molting" and his new coat is darker.

Tait didn't go through his first MOLT until he was about 9 months... and man was that god awful :|

Actually wait... Nate's first molt was the worst I think maybe ever... like guiness book of world records It was post neuter, post new home, post proper diet, post being sick at 3 yrs old, so he almost went bald for a while. I FILLED a 2' x 2' x 2' box with his hair, like actually squishing it in by the end.

Nates FIRST molt he was over 3 yrs old? And Tait was 9 months, so it seems age makes no difference. ??

Sorry I should have clarified. Nate was abandoned at 3 yrs old, very sick, and obviously having never been fed hay or veggies before. So once he was healthy, neutered, and on a proper diet he shedded out all of his coarse hair and got a new silky coat. So it was his first molt with me.

Usually though the first molt happens between 7 months and 1 year and it is usually the worst one they will ever have. But of course this is not a rule.

Thank you for the clarification and the info. I was getting so confused I was about to do a google search Poor Nate, sounds like you're the best thing that happened to him.
