When I was brushing my bunny a few days ago and he was REALLY and I

mean REALLY shedding. If there IS any supplement (as there is for dogs)

that’s for bunnies that prevents shedding we would be very grateful if

someone knew and could tell us!  Thanks!

Vicky – I shrunk down your text, as the size was huge.

It’s that time of year that rabbits are molting.  It’s just part of their nature to molt a few times a year.  So during the few weeks when it gets really heavy, the best thing you can do is help by combing/brushing your bunny’s fur more often.  Some bunnies molt in one big explosion molt, where all the fur starts really coming out very fast and tuffs of fur are sticking out everywhere.   Other bunnies will do more of a slow molt and it’s just as irritating as it just seems to be never-ending.

Here is a photo of my bunny Vivian after a brushing session. The left over fur was taking on a life of its own, so I made a joke about it by adding some eyes with photoshop. .   I had a few of these brushing sessions.

Usually after the molt is done, a bunny will stop shedding as much and it becomes more manageable.  Some bunnies are constantly shedding a bit, and I don’t know if that has to do with the temperature and/or diet.  But usually it’s still not as drastic as the molting time and just brushing once a week can usually help.

I agree with BB – bunnies just shed and there’s not much you can do beyond brush and brush. Diet might be part of year round shedding, but a twice yearly molt is normal for every bunny (though it seems worse for some than for others)
