This is terrible, LPT. I feel for you so much and really hope things start looking up soon. You really are a phenomenal bunny parent. I'm not sure how I could even cope with what you're going through right now.

You and Bindi WILL get through it though -- keep your thoughts positive, he needs you to and YOU NEED yourself to to help you get through this really tough time. We all know you are strong and can do this though.

Continued healing vibes for you both! <3

Sending so many vibes your way, Stephanie. I know you're having an awful time, and I couldn't imagine having the amount of stress and heartache you're having right now. Bindi is definitely in my thought - I'm sending my veterinary student healing powers his way!!!!! Please keep us updated.

How's he doing today? I've been following this thread for a couple of days, but haven't had much to add. I really feel for you, though - it must be terribly hard having two very ill bunnies at once, much less having to face the loss of one and the possible loss of another. You, Bindi and Olivia are definitely in my thoughts.

Hi, LPT. I don't know exactly when the site came back up again, so I'm checking in late.
I know you said Bindi was possibly coming home this evening. I hope he either does because he is in stable or better shape, or that they keep him overnight again with that goal in mind. I don't like the abscess and wish they would take care of that first if they can.

Try not to take it as a personal black cloud if you can avoid that kind of thinking, though I've been there many times and it's hard not to. It's much more likely that they are similar ages, or got a shared illness at some point, and Bindi is just vulnerable at the moment. It may be that he had something going on under the surface that is now getting treated, so this may be an awful ordeal for you that will result in having Bindi a much, much better bunny in the long run. Just try to do stress relieving and distracting things. Believe it or not, I can't worry a lot and read a book at the same time, so I try to get a fiction novel to read to hold my attention for a while. I usually have my mind wander, but the act of reading is calming and you sit quietly, which is physically relaxing. Try it?

Sending big hugs to you and to {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Bindi Loo}}}}}}}}}}}

Hey, guys. I didn't read any of your replies yet. I'm exhausted and will read them all later tonight or in the morning. Just wanted to leave a quick update, I know you are all concerned (and I appreciate it).

We brought him home around supper time. He's super depressed and agitated because of the cone. My rabbit vet said that the lump on his side (which is incredibly icky looking right now) is not an abscess or infected. Guess the other vet was wrong. Still, that's the least of his problems right now. My vet is still very concerned about him. There looks to be a slight tilt but it's hard to tell with the cone on. I can't take it off except to give CC because he immediately tries to dig at the lump. The cone/lump is making this whole thing much, much more difficult.

I want to keep his spirits up. He needs to fight this. He will most likely need the cone for a week. Any tips appreciated. I CANNOT lose him too. Especially, so soon. My heart is just going to burst. I'm staying strong for him but I just want to go in a room and scream and cry. My heart is aching for Stormy too and I haven't really had time to properly grieve for him yet.

Vet said to keep a close eye on him. If he starts rolling to call her. If not, she wants to see him in a week. He's on febendazole (I think that's the name) for 30 day treatment and Baytril. I'm hoping we caught it early enough. He literally only started the symptoms while he was at the vet yesterday.

Please send vibes. We sure need them.

Is he still on metacam? If E.C. is suspected or inner ear infection it's essential he have an antiinflammatory.
If the lump isn't abscessed or infected then I can't imagine....did she say what she thought it might be?

Just catching up on this. Stephanie, just want to give you a big hug. I'm so sorry you're going thru all this.

The 30 days on fenbendazole (panacur) sounds right. Standard for suspected ec. I want to reiterate what MM said about ear infection being possible cause for tilt also. Especially with Bindi's history. Also his molars causing some complication?

Perhaps the lump was a sterile abscess just under the skin? These can self-resolve. Very good there's no infection evident. One blessing at least.

Is it possible to put the cone on reverse? So it's more like a cape, extending over the front leg area. That might settle him and he'll have his vision back more.

Sending some major ((({{{vibes}}}))) out for Bindi <3.

 I Thanks, everyone.

K&K- Thanks for all that info. I really don't know anything about EC, head tilt etc, so any info greatly appreciated. If it was due to inner ear, what would the treatment be?

Mimz- Yes, he's on Metacam, Baytril and the fedendazole.

Jersey- I will try that with the cone. I had thought about it but it's a pretty big cone so not sure if it will work or not. Will let you know.

She said it's just from the sub Q and that he must have been digging at it.

Woke up this a.m. to find him sitting on a big pancake of diarrhea. Not sure whether that's stress or the meds. I e-mailed the vet about it. He was having big, normal poos last night.

Took the cone off this morning to give him meds, there is a slight tilt and he's walking with a little wobble. The worst part right now is how miserable he is. He hates the cone. I feel like the stress of it is going to kill him.... or me. If I take it off, he immediately goes for the wound.

He's super cranky about taking the meds and CC. This whole situation is so much for us both. I have to give CC like every 2 hours. Wish I could just fast forward a week. Or even more, go back to the way things used to be. With a healthy Stormy and Bindi.

Please pray for us and continue the vibes.

Could you trim the cone down and reverse it?

How about trying softened pellets mixed with something like pumpkin instead of CC? You can put a little water on pellets, zap it for 20 sec in microwave and they sort if fluff up. You can let it cool then give as or add pumpkin, baby fruit purée etc.

If it was due to inner ear, what would the treatment be?

Antibiotics would be first step I would think. If baytril hasn't help with his ear infections in the past, I'd consider talking with vet about penicillin. Also, X-ray might reveal something.

Am I right in that you've had cultures done of his ears that gave no clue to what was present?

{{{{{{{{{{{{Mega Healing Vibes, Bindi Loo}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}.

I think I missed what your bunny vet said the lump is, since it's not what was suggested earlier. And it still can't be drained in her opinion?

You must be so exhausted. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Peace and rest to LPT}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

I'm not strong. I just have no choice. I'm doing what I have to do but I'm super stressed and sad while I'm doing it. We have to take down Stormy's condo tonight. His cage is exactly how it was when he left it. It's gonna be hard. I haven't had proper time to grieve and it's very difficult.

Jersey- We've had many cultures done during his infections. One time a bacteria showed up and we cleared it up with the right meds. He hasn't had ear infections in a while. He's gone longer since the last one than he has in years.

Getting the CC in him 6 times a day is proving extremely difficult. The vet tech showed us a better way to do it but he's getting so mad at us. Digging and kicking.

lpt, i'm so sorry for all you're going through. when my rabbit was spayed they used like extra control pantyhose and cut front paw holes so she couldn't get at her stitches. is there anything like that you could do so you can remove the cone?

So sorry LPT...I've been swamped with work since hubby returned from his uncle's funeral this week. I meant to check on this thread to see how Bindi is faring.
I know...this is a hard illness to get through for both of you. I wish I could take all the pain away that you are feeling right now...or stop time to give you the space you need to say the goodbyes still locked within you. :'(

Ironic that you took down Stormy's condo...I just took down Mimzy's night habitat last night also. It's been sitting in it's spot gathering dust for four months. It was incredibly hard to do because I fear I'll never get it clean enough for him to use again and since that was where he got sick I wish I could just afford to dump it. I never want to see him in a cage again.

It is possible Bindi's poos are a result of the panacur or, if they are smudged cecals, it is the cone or his tilt that is keeping him from cleaning himself properly and the influx of all these drugs is flipping his stomach flora upside down.
I did finally get some herbs from that store I mentioned...would you like to run their names by your vet to see if they might help?
I found that Mimzy ate fairly well despite being sick, but wasn't always big on CC or even mushy pellets. Do you still have those raspberry cupcakes from Bunspace? Try soaking those in about a tablespoon or two of warm water and see if he won't nibble those. Good fiber and the moisture helps if he's not drinking much.
Continue with benebac if you can.
Veggies were the staple of Mimzy's diet because he could no longer drink from his sippy bottle and bowls were an enigma to him. He was so disoriented I could flip him over and wash his bum each night (a good thing when he developed bad urine scald) and that's when I gave meds and a spearmint leaf for putting up with me. He baptized me quite a few times before I finally got wise and held him with puppy pad burritos and wore an apron to save my clothes. Even with the intense stress I could find those moments laughable.

Penicillin, if your vet chooses that, is an injection. I could never manage it because it always leaks back out and they can't lick it off because it's bad for them internally. Getting smaller extra needles to replace the ones they draw the doses with and gently warming the syringe for a few minutes before injection is supposed to help with administration.
I'll try to mail you tonite. Call on me if you need anything. Healing vibes and prayers of comfort for both you and Bindi. This is a tough time, but it will get better. Don't give up! (((((((((Hugs)))))))))

ETA: There may be a box from the BB store arriving soon if it hasn't already. I'm sorry it didn't get there in time to help Stormy. :'(
Thinking of you always. <3

The little bugger took off his cone sometime during the night. I'm sure he licked that spot like crazy but it doesn't seem too irritated. He seems a bit more tilted and tired this morning, which makes me sad. He did eat some breakfast, not much appetite though. One good thing is I did not notice any more eye tremors since he left the vets.

He's out right now without the cone and doesn't seem to be as obsessed with licking his "booboo". I guess he got most of it out of his system last night. He's gonna be a crank when I put the cone back on. I managed to rig up something similar to what you mentioned, Sleepy 538. I cut a hole in a sock, put his front leg through it, stretched it across the booboo and then vet wrapped the sock around his belly. It did the trick for his out-time last night.

The Diva is very unhappy that I'm spending so much time with Bindi. I feel bad but I have to take care of him so much during the day. My house remains a bunny hospital for now.

It's just so frustrating. The tilt/EC would be bad enough but the cone situation is making everything worse and making us both stressed out. Ugh.....too much all at once. I really need my happy, cuddly Bindi back. It hurts to see him so depressed. I'm so scared the tilt gets worse. Not sure what's making him so tired.

Mimz- What is Panacur? Is that another name for the Febendazole? Sure, let me know the names of the herbs and I'll check it out. Did you find Mimzy was tired/depressed when he started showing symptoms?

I can't get him to drink much, even without the cone. I bought him a big water bottle but he can't really find it with the cone on. Can't wait to get rid of that thing. I feel like a horrible monster putting it on him.

We're going back to the vet later this week for a re-check and I'm going to ask her if he can still get Benebac.

That totally reminds me; Ricky told me on Friday that a package had come. I was so busy and stressed that I forgot about it until now. Maybe that was the BB box!!! I will have to find where he stashed it. Thanks so much, Mimz.

If the sock thing is working, do you really need to put the cone back on? Or could you take the cone off and put the sock on while he has free time or if you are around for a while to watch him? To give both of you a break.

*sigh* I'm so sorry you're going thru all of this. Was glad to read that there were some good poops happening even though the cone is such a struggle with the ec. Packing up Stormy's enclosure will be very very sad. I've had to do that a few times now. Ugh. I'm praying for sweet Bindi that at least the spot heals up soon so you have one less worry and can heal your heart a bit. Hugs to you LPT.
