So I had to go out of town Sunday to my parents house for an early morning doctor appointment up there Monday. We decided it was best for Bunjamin to leave him in the care of my boyfriend, Andy’s care since Bunjamin hates traveling. I believe Andy followed normal routine (I still haven’t spoken to him yet to confirm- he’s in class).

Anyways I get home and had to do some rushing around for the bead business but not even a half hour after I got home, I went into Bunjamins room to spend time with him. I laid on the floor with him grooming his face like he loves but when I felt one of his eyes, there was something rough. I thought it was a goober so I tried to gently swipe it with my thumb like normal but it wouldn’t budge. Well at this point he said, ENOUGH. So after lots and lots of bribes he finally let me take a look at it and it was red around the edges (where it is normally light pink/purple) and there was a piece of hay in the corner. I knew he wouldn’t let me get it so I called the vet. I am lucky she was in and so I made the now longer since the move journey for the first time trying to keep calm.

So we get there and she was able to get it out… it was 15mm long! She was shocked by that. And half of it was black so we started wondering how long it would’ve been in there. She had to a die test (she numbed his eye first) to see if his cornea was scratched and it was . Poor guy. So he’s has eyedrops that will be needed 3 times a day for 3 days. She said if I hadn’t noticed his eye would’ve been shut up and possible infected? (? mark because I’m now trying to remember if this part is what she said). She wants to recheck it in 6 months

She ended up giving him a whole physical while we were there. Which is kinda nice to only make him go through that once. That’s when I found out more! Looks like Bunjamin’s getting on the slightly chunky side so we’re cutting back some stuff. Also she said his molars are just started to point so she wants to keep an eye on that. :/ She said in her experience, smaller buns usually have more teeth issues.

Poor Bunjamin! I gave him a nice big salad when we got home so hopefully he’ll forgive me!

Sorry this was long! I tried to be thorough.

Oh no! I hope his eye clears up soon. Poor thing must have been so uncomfortable

          Healing vibes to bunjamin!

Oh no! Im glad the vet was able to help him. The first time I went away over night, I dished out Foo’s food in baggies for Ryan to give her and wrote instructions because I was so nervous, even though she is his bun too and knows how to care for her.

Thanks guys. He is behaving normally right now and the color is starting to turn normal around his eye. Only the spot where the actual piece of hay was is red. He’s a trooper though. And I’m trying not to blame Andy because this could’ve happened in the hours between when he left for school and I came home. I blame myself for not checking with Bunjamin right when I got home though. Any extra time spent in pain makes me feel bad.

                  (((healing vibes)))

Don’t feel bad though! This stuff happens. And you took him to the vet and now he will heal up! And forgive you. Maybe. Eventually. LOL (Just kidding, he will!)

My cat got a blade of grass stuck in her nose. Yes, you read that right. And I have no idea what she did or how it even happened as she was an outdoor cat. She stuck around the house and was very healthy all her life. I went out to visit and noticed she was dirty from rolling around so I was “making her pretty again” and brushing her off. Couldn’t brush that piece of grass off her face though. Upon further examination, I found out it was stuck. LOL She managed to get it out by the time I could get her to the vet but I still had her checked out.

Hodari has gotten hay stuck in her eye a couple of times. Ouch!!! I think she and Bunjamin need some special, “made-for-bunnies” safety goggles. I hope it’s not too tough giving Bunji his eye drops…

The biggest worry in bunny eye health is corneal ulcers from injury or lodged foreign objects. Sometimes the tissue underneath traps infection which can lead to blindness or at worst enucleation. Sounds like you have it well in hand though so, well done!
Healing vibes for Benjamin! (Love his name!)

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. The eye is still red in the corner so hopefully that clears. Time will tell.

                          Hodari, those goggles sound cute!
The nose story is interesting too.

I’m about to go do his eye drops. He’s alright. Yesterday we got binkies. Today he’s been more recluse. I’ve made up my mind to call the doctor if his eye is still red after the eye drop recommended time.

Of course Bullrider. We are a family here. And when one of our bunnies is under the weather, we all feel for them. At least I know I do.

Bunjamin’s back to his normal spunky self. I’m so grateful.
