How far is too far for spay?

I’ve started doing research to find a vet that we would trust to spay Foo, should wd decide to have the surgery done as our vet said she is not comfortable doing it. I had a few local vets recommend one doctor in particilar who is rabbit savy and routinely performs spays and nueters and has a very good tract record for short, precise procedures and high sucess rate. However he is over an hour away fromus. Is he worth looking into or is this to far to travel with a rabbit the day of surgery?

My vet is about an hour from us, you often have to travel a ways to get a good exotics vet. Should be fine if you trust the vet.

I drove 2 hours for Ash to go to a rabbit vet for her spay, they were lovely and their price was $80 less than the vets closer to home… and while I was up there I dropped into a rabbit sanctuary and picked up my 2nd bunny; Loki

I don’t think an hour is too far. On the day of surgery, I would make sure to get pain meds for home. Vets will sometimes give a 24 hour pain med injection and say “If she’s still in pain tomorrow, call us up and we’ll give you more pain meds.” This is obviously not ideal when they are an hour away. So make sure when you’re talking to the vet that you will receive the meds the day of surgery.

I drove 2.5 hours for Tofu’s surgery and he was fine They gave him pain meds for the ride home.

And she would be okay on the drive home with a trip that long? The only time she has been in a car was to go to the vet we see now and that was only a five minute trip.

Tofu didn’t have a problem. Before then he hadn’t been in a car very long either. I just put him in a carrier with a warm blanket and he hunkered down. I didn’t listen to the radio or speed excessively on the way back so I could try to make the ride as gentle as possible and he seemed ok. Hopped out of his carrier like nothing happened when we got home

This all makes me feel better about giving this vet a call. We are thinking about switching vets anyway just cause I wouldn’t trust ours if Foo got sick AND the emergency vet her office refers to doesnt see rabbits.
