        Hi Everyone!
This is my first post on here.

I recently adopted a ten month old mini-rex bunny from the Humane Society. Adopting him has been the best decision I have ever made! His name is Crackers.

The other day I noticed that he had some dry patches on the inside of his ear. I looked up ‘earmites’ and it doesn’t look anything that extreme, but I’m still kind of worried. Tip: do not ever google ‘earmites’ if you haven’t already.

Here is a picture of his ear (it’s actually on both ears like this) and two of him being cute. And a video of him doing binkies. He doesn’t do them that often – he’s more of a spaz and kind of jumpy.

Thanks everyone, I am enjoying looking at all of your cute bunny friends on here!

Hello welcome to BB ! I’m not sure if it is mites (my cat gets mites but I don’t know how they’d appear on a rabbit). I just wanted to say you should take him to a local rabbit savvy vet even if it isn’t mites just to get him checked over and make sure that his ears are okay. I really like the last pic there, so sweet !

It’s hard to tell by just a picture if it’s earmites or not. Does he scratch his ears?

            He’s absolutely gorgeous!!!!

Do you know if he was treated for ear mites while at the Humane Society?

I would have a vet, certified in treating exotics-which is how rabbits are viewed, have a look at his ears. Mites can be difficult to spot and in my experience sometimes even your vet can miss them if the infestation is in early stages. It might be advisable to give a course of Revolution (selamectin) if there is any doubt.
Some mite/flea/tick treatments are hazardous and even deadly to rabbits. Dog and cat treatments like Frontline are poisonous to them. Please be sure your vet is aware of this.

Your bun is adorable (I love the picture of him with the watermelon!) You’ll find pictures of your bunny are going to be in high demand here. (Who doesn’t like bunny pictures? ) He is a real cutie and I hope he checks out okay at the vet and that whatever is going on with his ears is easily sorted.
              Welcome to Binky Bunny!

Your bun is adorable! Welcome to BB! =]

I agree with the others it never hurts to take the bun to a rabbit savvy vet for a look over. For future reference though, Revolution and Advantage are okay flea treatments to give to buns. I buy the cat version of the two products and treat my bun with half of a kitten Advantage when I notice my cats get fleas and .05cc of Revolution for ear mites. This is all off of her weight though which is about 4lbs. I would confer with your vet as to the dosage to make sure you don’t overdoes your bun. It’s always a good thing to have on hand a couple of syringes without the needles. One for applying/measuring out flea medicine & one for emergency syringe feeding if anything seems to befall your bun. There are some really great resources on BB concerning rabbit care and how to find a rabbit savvy vet.

Welcome! I love the watermelon pic-that is dying for a caption

I really can’t see anything in the ear picture, looks pretty normal to me, but I’m not sure what part you think is dry.

Since you just adopted him, you should look up a vet and go for a checkup anyways. This will help you to screen and find a proper qualified rabbit vet, and make it a bit of a familiar place (so that the first time he goes to the vet isn’t when he’s feeling ill and it’s a new place and person) for him, so if he does go when he’s ill he will at least know where he is. So that would be a great opportunity to get it checked out and see.

Wow, thank you everyone for the compliments! Crackers is very flattered! I have taken him to a vet before (I have had him for two months and took him to a vet right away, for the exact reasons that you mention, Kokanee). I’m moving this weekend but going to pay the vet a visit the week after to check out the ear situation and get a mani-pedi.

The caption that my friend came up for the watermelon pic was:

Headline: Bunny rabbit demonstrates kissing technique for Portland’s “Healthy Sexuality” class at the Downtown Community Center

Lol! Well, word is the mini rexes are quite the kissy buns.

Welcome to you and Crackers. He’s very entertaining!

I’m not positive, but I think one of our regular members Monkeybun volunteers at that humane society. So she could very well have already met your Crackers.

Btw, love the screen name. :p
