         hello,
i have been keeping the hay in a large bowl in front of my bunny’s litterbox  and my bunny hasn’t been eating that much hay and i’m just wondering but should i keep the hay in a rack or bowl? does he see the hay when it’s in the bowl?

I have a ceramic carrot bowl for hay in his cage and I overfill it, so he definitely sees it! I also put hay in his large cat litterbox, when he has the run of his room. He always eats more of that. He wouldn’t eat much out of a rack. Too much trouble to pull it out. He likes to get mouthfulls at a time.

I use quilted cotton placemats for my bunnies’ hay. It’s very accessible and they can lay on it if they want. The placemats are easily washed, which is good since they frequently pee on the hay. I had thought about getting a big bowl for the hay, but I feel like they eat more off of the placemat.

I bought stackable storage bins for my hay. They like them because they can sit right in them as they eat. The drawback is they tend to use them as a potty on occasion, though.

I have hay racks, but my buns pull the hay out of the top, not between the bars, so they really function much like a bowl would. I would just look for some container that can hold a decent amount of hay and isn’t easy for the bun to sit in – bunnies have a tendency to poop and pee on hay, so if they can get into the hay container they might use it as a bathroom. I take the hay that falls out of the racks and put it in the litter boxes so they can poop and pee on that hay, but some stays clean in the hay racks.

Thanks for all the help !
I decided to just stick with the bowl because he seems to like it. if i put it on the surface of the cage, he might poop or pee on it, and if i use the hay rack, he might just pull out the hay from the top; which is the same process with the bowl.

                   –  thanks! (:

We use one of these: http://www.etsy.com/listing/67290023/saveabunnys-three-hole-hay-saver-box?ref=sr_gallery_2&ga_search_query=saveabunny&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all

It helps with the mess too. My buns will definitely pee in any hay container they could get in to, so we have to use a rack. I also like wire baskets.
