Okay so both my bunnies get the same amount of pellets, unlimited hay and about 2-3 cups of veggies a day.  Both are 5lb rabbits.  Am I feeding enough veggies  to them?  I know I am feeding enough pellets but just curious about the veggies.

Also, now that the buns are housed together they’ve been eating out of the same veggie dish but the thing is I think Valentine eats most of the veggies!!    She’s a little piggy.  She eats constantly.  Well, when there is food around.  Which surprisingly usually there are pellets around.  I think she’s been eating Rascals share too…I know Rascal is eating now though I’ve been watching him.

Should I separate the veggies into two dishes or keep it in one dish?  How  can I make sure Valentine doesn’t eat all the food and make sure Rascal gets ENOUGH food?

perhaps separate them when it comes to feeding time..
i know yeti GOBBLES everything as soon as its put down.. if your buns are the same.. just put the veggies in 2 bowls and maybe feed them at different times of the day. OR feed valentine first then she could have a full(ish) tummy so rascal can get a chance at the noms

Our two dogs were like that when I was growing up, so my mom got two bowls and fed them at once. While the pig was cleaning up quickly, the other one had a chance to get a few bites in. The pig would come over and steal some extra when she was finished with her bowl though. Crazy enough– the pig was a 9lb dog. The other, pushover, was a 25lb dog. Sometimes, pets won’t stick up for themselves!

about 2-3 cups of veggies a day

Is this between the two of them?

I guess I should have been more clear. They get two to three cups EACH a day.

The House Rabbit Society recommends a minimum 2 cups chopped vegetables per 6 lbs. body weight so Id say youre right on the ball.

I separate veggies into two dishes. I don’t separate the bunnies, so they can choose which dish they eat out of, but it lets the more timid bun get his own dish while the pushy bun focuses on her food. With only one dish, it’s easy for the more bossy of the pair to hog it all.

2-3cups per day per rabbit sounds great.

You know i’ve been wondering if i’m underfeeding too. Snowy gets almost half a cup of pellets a day, about 2-3 handfulls of hay a day but no constant veggies or leafy greens…she’s older and when i tried something like that she didn’t eat anything but those few leaves of lettuce for the rest of day. also, i read she should weigh 10 pounds at least but she weighs 5 or 6 lbs!!! i’m scared about it…btw she’s a French Lop. Can anybody help…?

SnowflakeNElie- A bunny that size should be getting 2-3 cups greens per day.

Does she eat all the hay you give her? What type of hay do you feed?

Has the vet ruled out any healthy problems that could be causing the low weight?

Arrrgh. no matter what i do she only eats the greens all day and nothing else or the other way around!!! Thanks, though! =)
Yes, she eats a lot of hay. Timothy 1st cut from my horse barn…don’t worry it’s clean and Snow loves it…hates the store stuff now XP.
No the one time we took her he didn’t say a thing about her weight!
