So far this summer has been amazing. Between my garden at home and my mother’s garden I’ve barely had to purchase lettuce for the buns.

I’m wondering if anyone has tried and/or had success growing lettuce indoors during the winter? (I know we’re still in midsummer, just something I thought about today).

Also, can bunnies eat “cat grass”. I grow it for the kitties already but haven’t tried feeding it to the buns.

I believe that you can grow lettuce indoors during the winter. I have had great success growing lettuce indoor, although it takes my bunny 2 minutes to eat what I have grown, haha.

Yes! Bunnies can eat cat grass, aka ‘Wheat Grass.’ I buy Burpee brand ‘Cat Grass’ seeds from my Walmart or Target. It is cheaper to buy in-store rather than online. The brand is really good

I’ve had some mild success with indoor herbs. Haven’t yet ventured into the lettuce, but would like to try. I’m a total plant killer though, so I’m a bit wary.

I grow burpee brand cat grass as well.

It sounds like something I’ll have to try. Thank you both for your responses!

I’ve tried with some success. I never got nice big heads and I still had to buy my normal amount at the grocery store, but it worked well as a snack for the bunnies.

My biggest issue is planting seeds and not thinning them enough, so my indoor veggies stay small. If you are a better gardener than me, you might have luck getting some bigger heads.

I’ve never tried growing lettuce inside. I’ve known people who have had success with growing it in Aerogardens. Never tried it in a non-hydroponic way. If you find that growing lettuce inside is a little hard. It’s always good to search for lettuces that can withstand cold fairly well, so you can try to grow it outside if you find that easier. Kale is one such plant. Good luck on the gardening! =]
