I know acorns are on the toxic list but what should I do about my situation? So I set up my rabbit pen I made last year and it happens to be right under an oak tree and the acorns are awful! My mom says she hasn’t seen them this bad in years! They are falling like crazy! I have a mesh top on my pen but some smaller acorns and acorn shells will fall through. I pick up all of the ones I can see but I know I will probably miss little pieces of them. I want to let them out in the pen because it is very cool this week and it is the only way they can get exercise. Do you think I can still let them out? There is no way of moving the pen as it is part way underground. I wouldn’t be so worried about it but a few weeks ago I hear a crunch and I see mocha trying to eat one! I took it away of coarse but I wont be watching them the whole time. So do you think I could let them out or not?

         Thanks!

I know it’s nice to let your bun have time to play out side. But I always just go with the cautious route. I wouldn’t let them out under the tree. If there is another place that is acorn free and gives them shade, then I don’t see needing to keep them away from their outside romps. If not then, just keep them inside this season. We want to make sure our beloved bunnies are kept safe. =]

I currently don’t have a house and are living with my grandparents. They are not allowed out of their cage so the only time they get exercise is when I bring them outdoors. The pen is a homemade pen and is built sort of underground with wire underneath the grass so if they dig they can’t escape so it isn’t moveable.

Is there any way that you can do a really good comb through with the help of your mom? To make sure that there are no acorns there at all? And put a sheet on top of the pen? That way you know for sure none are falling through the top? And when your buns are not in it, I would suggest putting sheets on the top and sides of it so that way wind is not able to blow any into the pen.
