I just ordered a bunch of Sisal rope and blocks to tie toys together with for my buns….. and also just got this nature ball made of Sisal rope http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751780

My bun with the chronic GI slow motility keeps actually trying to EAT the Nature Ball. Says it’s made out of 100% safe, natural sisal. Is it okay if he eats Sisal? I mean considering he has GI problems and a history of getting bound up? I’m about to take it out of his pen……. my other bun is ignoring hers.

Well, I emailed a company that makes lots of bunny toys with sisal rope and this is their response:

“Yes, sisal is safe. However if you do notice him consuming large amounts
than I would limit how much he has access too. This is true of any product
you give your bunny, including wood chews. Sisal is from a type of agave
plant and is similar in structure to hay. Rabbits will normally chew it into
small pieces before swallowing so it will go right through the gut (as opposed
to cotton rope which the rabbit can not chew into pieces so it gets swallowed
          whole).

Just like most dog toys are safe unless your dog completely eats the
whole thing, our toys are safe as long as you use reason and common sense.
We have been selling toys for 10 years now and have never had a problem or
a problem reported back to us. In fact some of the largest rescues in the country
have purchased from us and use sisal in their own toys.

          I hope that helps!”

Hopefully this will help answer anyone’s questions in the future regarding this question. I am sure a lot of people were wondering.
