        I’m always trying out new recipes for myself and family and have a passion for vegetarian cooking.

        I want to make treats for my bunny. I know pectin’s origins and I know that it should be bunny safe (i’d like to make chewy and jelly-like treats, too, from fruit). What can you tell me about the mentioned flours? Are they safe for bunnies?

         

        Another treat I imagined would be made from blended fruits and veggies, and frozen into a cube.

        Perhaps I could somehow add the pectin to make a gummy fruit treat.

         

        I look through the oxbow ingredients and find soy products:

          I’m not sure about using soy flour. Have you tried making flour out of your rabbit’s pellets? Or buying oats and making flour out of it? Rolled oats like these: http://www.bobsredmill.com/thick-rolled-oats.html could always work.

            I don’t know about soy flour, but soy isn’t a natural bunny food so I would avoid it. I would stick to things like oats or oat flour and ground up pellets especially.

              I’ve tried making flour out of pellets. I added crushed veggies and sprouts…

              The treats ended up being a strange and crumble-y consistency.

              Penelope didn’t like it, either. Eh…

              I’ll totally try the oat flour. Or just making flour from oats…

              Hopefully such flour will hold it’s shape better. =/

                SuperCheesetastic have you tried using an apple sauce as an adhesive for the treat? I make mine from scratch instead of buying it. I just cut up the apple and take out the core. Then boil it till the apples are mushy. I threw the apple into a food processor. Most people skin the apples before boiling but that’s where all the nutrients are, so I left them on.
