My outdoor rabbit, Frankie, is acting strange. he’s in a 5 foot cage and wehn i open the door he tries to get out. I think he has ear mites (crusty, scabby, waxy,) and he has matted butt fur and its dirty. I AM SSOOOOO WORRIED

PLEASE HELP!! My parents are going to call the vet tomorrow, but im worried sick! I really hope a fly didnt lay eggs on hus but because he doesnt move round much in his cage :”'(((((( PLEase tell me what to do. Is a normal vet (cat, dog) okay? The closest rabbit savvy is 3 hours away  The only place I can bring him is the cat dog vet btw he is a mini lop. help

Is there anyway you can bring him inside. Outside is full of predators, bugs, and hot weather which is not good for him.

I think normally I would say that a rabbit specialist is best but sometimes that is not possible so if you can see any vet that has some ideas on rabbit health, that would be better than having him suffer.

Any vet is better than nothing at this point. Perhaps the vet can call a rabbit vet if he has questions.
What did Frankie act like last time you checked on him?

Yes, Sarita, I have actually just ordered a pen and small condo. I am sure you all can help me throughout my bunny journey. I have been reading here on BB for QUITE some time. I’d say maybe 2 years.
And Kokanee- Frankie looked a little better when i checked. Perhaps he has sore hocks?

It sounds like he needs a full vet exam. Tell us what they say and I would get him inside asap. If you need more help setting up an inside habitat, please let us know. What is his diet like each day (type of food and amounts)?

How old is Frankie? What kind of hay?

Frankie is around estimation 5 months. And the hay is from a local farm, it’s Timothy.
Today I will call the vet and schedule an appointment ASAP.
I checked on him a minute ago, misted him with a small amount of water (its a warm day) and gave him carrot tops, romaine, and summer crisp lettuce that i grow myself.
By the way I really appreciate all yours help and I’m verry happy that I made a BB.
All of you are so sweet and kind.

I’m also new to rabbit owning. I got Frankie about 2 months ago.
When I do go to the vet, what do I ask for? What do I expect? what questions do I ask?
On the phone, when I call, what do I tell her? Do I ask for a full body examination?

Tell them the symptoms you are noticing and mention your bun has never had a checkup and needs to be seen right away. They’ll know what to check. If it’s hot there, try freezing a couple 1L 2L bottles of water and lay them down for your bunny to lay against to cool off. Inside would be best for a bunny, though.

I hope you get to the vet soon and your Frankie starts feeling better!

Turns out we had to reschedule the appointment! A little accident with my dad and his car (He’s fine, the car, not so much!) So he had to take my moms to work. And we couldn’t make it. My dads car should be fixed by tomorrow. But I rescheduled all the way til’ Monday! sigh* That was the only open time. IT’s ASAP, so its okay. 1:40 pm Monday. I’ll be there!

SO we went to the vet. IT turns out he had ear mites. He was treated. He’s fine! Very nice vet! He was so gentle. But he did freak a bit when he checked his butt. He also is for sure a BOY <3

Yep, so now he is inside. In a small cage, but his pen in condo most likely should be here today

Thanks I fed him mustard greens two days ago and now he’s having sticky soft stools. I guess I wont be feeding him those anymore.
