Does anyone feed Mazuri?  We do and there is a recall, but so far only on 25 lb bags are on the list, we have 5 lb bags.  The manufacturer is pretty much recalling everything, every food they make in the large bags, for every type of animal due to toxic levels of Vitamin D resulting in numerous small animal sickness complaints and a guinea pig death (according to FDA).  I think we might switched back to Oxbow because even though the company has not issued a recall on our bags, they have added more items to the recall every couple of days, I feel like I am just waiting for ours to be added.  When I called the company they could not tell me if the batch put in the bags I had have been checked or not.  When I asked if there would be more recalls they said no, but a few days later there are tons more.

Does anyone else feed these, and what are you doing?  As far as Oxbow does anyone have any advice on the value of each of the 3 pellets they sell?  We fed the original for a few years before switching back to the Mazuri/Purina brand.

Did you mean to write your post with the white on black :~) It’s a bit of a challenge to read.

What do you mean by the value of each pellet? I know that Oxbow does post about their nutritional value on their website if you look there if that is what you mean.

No I didn’t, I don’t know why it came out like that, I didn’t edit any settings.

As far as value, I meant opinions on which people might prefer health wise. Their nutritional values are similar but they do contain different ingredients and that is definitely reflected in the price.

I prefer Oxbow. They are a high quality pellet, and I have never had any issues with them Plus, my buns love em.

I bought a bag of the Organic, they won’t touch it.  I tried to trick him and give him a pellet with something else and he just spits it out!

you know its good for htem if they want to other stuff still Just gradually switch over and they will learn to deal. Purina/mazuri just never looked like a good pellet to me.

Yeah, I mean they only get a couple TBSP per day, the rest of their diet is multiple hays and greens, so they are not going to starve to death, I just give them for the added vitamins.  I guess if they miss the old ones enough they will eat the new ones eventually, if not I guess that is fine too.  I do wish for going pellet free but I am afraid I can’t provide enough nutrients.

I’m surprised that this happened. Mazuri was always considered the best pellet brand for chinchillas. I would buy it all the time since it was readily available and Oxbow was not (although my chins did try Oxbow when there was a Mazuri shortage). When we got the buns, we just went with Oxbow because it was what was available at the time. It is more readily available now and we can actually get it quite cheap. Weird how that worked out.

Has anyone heard anything about the 5lb bags yet?

CocoaB- I suggest e-mailing the company.
