I’ve been trying to unsuccessfully search for a rabbit savvy vet in the Tampa Bay area.   Trying to find a good vet is kind of driving me crazy.  I was really wondering if anyone has used a vet in Tampa personally and absolutely loved them.  I’m looking for a vet for Skipper to get her regular checkups done at and spaying.  I have tried looking on the House Rabbit Society site for the Tampa Bay area, except it seems to be down.  I would feel better about bringing Skipper to a vet that has had a good recommendation or review.

I went to the Resources tab here and found one list of Florida vets, from rabbitsonline.net. There are some listed for Tampa – you’ll have to scroll through the list to find them. This list is from 2006, but hopefully these vets are still working.  You can find other lists from the Resources tab (at the top of the page here).  I hope that some of the members here that live in your area will have some suggestions for you too.

It looks like the Tampa Bay HRS site is gone, not just down.

Check out http://www.bunspace.com/vets/vetsearch —then put in your city. That is a good option because you will get bunspace members comments about the vets. Now when I put in Tampa Bay in their search, nothing came up, but Tampa showed a few. That may not be as convenient, but at least it’s something. Also, if there is a another city that is more convenient for you, you can check that too.

Did you see the Vet resource thread in this forum section?

@BB Yes I have looked. It’s slightly frustrating because the closest area to where I can get a vet who is remotely rabbit savvy is in Tampa. I live about an hour or so out from Tampa in a rural area where vets claim to be rabbit savvy but are not. After questioning them about their spaying procedures they said to have my Skipper fast. Knowing that rabbits are not supposed to be fasted I immediately said ‘no thank you’ to their services. Thank you for the link. =]

@Tobyluv Thank you for the link. =] And I was afraid of that. =/ =[ Rabbits don’t seem to be popular pets in this area.

One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the people at the reception will give you incorrect information even with rabbit savvy vets on staff IF the vet actually said fast then that’s another story, but we have had members here who have had great vets, but the front desk area was just so used to advising fasting that they didn’t think twice until the rabbit savvy vet was informed about the misinformation that was being given out. Just double checking on that.
