My bunny, Simba, recently jumped right into the garbage can filled with nasty food, and I was wondering if oatmeal shampoo (Watered down) would be fine to use on him. We tried just water, but he smells still and we have natural shampoo for my dog who’s allergic to other kinds of shampoo. I tried googling it, but I really can’t find much on it.

Yeah I am sure that will be fine. Is it warm where you live? You really don’t ever want to bathe a bunny but in this case it may be necessary especially so Simba doesn’t eat the food by cleaning himself off! You’ll want to line the tub with a mat or towel so it’s not slippery. Make sure the water is warm like you would use but not hot. If you can’t comfortably keep your hand/wrist/foot/face in the water, it’s not comfortable for your bunny either. Do it quick if you can-use a cup to put water on Simba, Lather and rinse using the cup, rinse very thoroughly. Dry well using a few towels to get most of the moisture out. And then observe for 4-6 hours to make sure Simba isn’t shivering. They can get really chilled from being wet.

Hope this helps! Welcome! (Now time to get a garbage lid!)

It is warm here, well rather very very hot. And I ended up sitting in the tub with him, he sat on my lap and munched on some parsley and he was very calm (As long as he had something to eat.) It took me about an hour to give him a bath, so that he didn’t freak out and end up hurting himself. And then I towel dried him and brushed him and once he was completely dried, he ran away, flicking his feet at me and ignored me the rest of the night. I don’t think he was happy with the bath and grooming session, but rather he was happy with the food he was receiving! Also, we usually have the garbage can in a cabinet, but my sister doesn’t really push it back in. haha  Thanks for the tips (Even though I just kept looking on google for information so I can get the bath over with really quick.)

Ha! ha!  So you got the bunny butt for a while, huh?  We’ve all been there!   Most importantly: does he smell better?!?

Yeah I did, and he smells so much better now.  He was also very fluffy, the next day we took him to my therapy appointment and then PetSmart and he was just the center of attention, everyone who saw him petted him and loved him and he just loved all the attention.  Simba’s such a good bunny haha.
