My 1 year old Dwarf Peter got neutured this morning. Ever since I took him home he’s been pretty quiet. He drank a little bit and ate a little bit of pellets. He also ate an ok amount of hay. He’s just been sleeping in a little ball (he does this about 1/2 the time he usually sleeps. He slept a while on hi back on my legs while I pet his head. He really hasn’t been pooping/peeing – maybe just 2 average poops and no pee that I can tell in his litterbox. Is this concerning? It’s only been 12 hrs since the surgery, but I just want to make sure this isn’t reason to be worried. Any tips for how to get him to be comfortable? He has pain meds to take twice a day starting tomorrow.

        Thanks guys!

Usagi got neutered last week, and he slept basically 24/7 for about 2 1/2 days after the surgery. He didn’t start pooping/peeing normally until about 3 days after the neuter. I gave him a little banana, and Critical care and he seemed to like it. I also gave him some romaine lettuce, and parsley, and he ate a little. He didn’t start eating his pellets and hay normally until about 3 days after the neuter.

Oh ok that’s good to know. Peter ate a bit of banana, a baby carrot, some hay, and some pellets. I’m just trying to feed him his favorite things so he’ll eat!

I also gave him 1-2 treats a day for a few days after the neuter so he would eat something! Usagi also ate some alfalfa hay, as he seemed to prefer eating that after the neuter, but then a few days later he decided to start eating the timothy hay again.

It sounds like Peter is doing pretty good, actually. Boys take nueters easier then girls. That’s why I prefer boys but i’m just kidding! I ♥ both!
I hope peter starts pooping and peeing

Yup sounds like he’s doing good Like they said things will take a few days to get back to normal, but so long as he’s eating and drinking a bit he should be good.

Some bad news – Peter’s balls are a bit swollen so the vet is having a look at him tomorrow (at no charge). She thinks it’s nothing, but wants to be safe. He’s eating totally normally now, is more active, and peed normally. His poops are a bit dark and small, but I heard that’s normal. Here’s hoping the vet says he’s fine tomorrow (I think he will be.)

So what did the vet say? Is it anything to worry about?

They look funny right afterward because the area is swollen. I would only worry if it doesn’t go down after a few days.

The vet said it was fine and it just happens to some bunnies, so that’s good! However, I have an extremely hard time trying to get his pain meds in his mouth. Any tips for medicine taking? Today I put it kind of in a small piece of banana, so he good eat it, but we don’t have any bananas left now! Also, his poops are back to normal and he’s very bouncy, which is good!

To medicate my bunnies, I sit them on the table, wrap a towel around them if needed and carefully and slowly squirt the meds in the side of their mouth, followed immediately by a tasty treat.

He will not take it…Oh well, I’ll just keep putting it in fruit.

Because Scat only gets 1/8-1/4cup pellets per day he scarfs them like a treat when he can get them. so at morning feeding i just squirt the recomended amount on his food and he eats it right up (neutered 6/28). I “trick” all my animals whenever possible when it comes to medicine, hiding/mixing it in food. much less traumatic for them and me.
