Which veggies are the safest for rabbits?  We have two baby buns (4 months old) who we have begun introducing veggies to and so we are trying to find a good amount of different types to feed them daily.   We have fed them cilantro, parsley, and basil so far with no problem.  And we just bought a lot of kale so we’ve been giving that to them but then someone I know who has a bun said that kale was one of those veggies that can be toxic so they should only be given small amounts.  I’ve googled it but I’ve found different answers about  how safe it is.  Thoughts/suggestions on veggies that definitely safe to be given on a regular basis?

Here is a list from the House Rabbit Society:

          http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html

There is alot of confusion about greens that are high in calcium, but it is really veggies that are high in oxalic acid that can be problematic and kale is a safe veggie.

She also talks about the misconception of veggies such as broccoli causing gas in rabbits.

The article which I HIGHLY recommend you read is written by Dr. Susan Brown, DVM, who is the Health Director for HRS and also a very experienced rabbit vet.

Kale is a safe veggie and an absolute favorite of my buns… I think many people have one staple lettuce they get each week (we get romaine) and then add other things in. I would keep them on the leafier veggies for now.
