I am getting a baby rabbit in a couple of days and it is currently eating timothy hay and timothy based pellets. I was wondering if I should keep him on the timothy diet of put him on a alfalfa diet. He looks like he is around 3 months old but we don’t know for sure because he was found on the side of the road.

It will be fine to keep him on the timothy hay and pellets. If you want, you can supplement it with some alfalfa hay.

              Yep, I agree with Sarita.

Also, at some point he will need fresh veggies. For rabbits that didn’t grow up eating them, it’s recommending that you start introducing them in small quantities around 12 weeks. Just feed a little bit of a new veggie every day for a week, then add a different new veggie the next week, etc.

Thanks, I buy spring mix for Spelda and that has over 10 types of leafy veggies in it so should I just pick one type of leaf at a time or should I just give him a small amount of the mixed leafs?

The veggies in spring mix are generally similar (types of lettuce and greens) so I’d just give a small amount each day to make sure his digestive system can handle it. You can increase the amount after a week or so.

I would agree to keep him on timothy pellets, and hay, but you could add a little bit of alfalfa to his diet. Can’t wait to see pictures!
